    download VLC [www.videolan.org]

its a software media player which is region free, it bypasses the need to set your drives region code, as apple dvd player requires

so this way there is no patching/hacking of the drive

See what model DVD drive you have using System Profiler (in the utilities folder in your applications folder), and see if they have firmware for it at one of these sites:
    http://forum.rpc1.org/viewforum.php?f=30
    http://superdrive.cynikal.net/
If they do, make sure you follow the readme instructions VERY CAREFULLY.

  4. Is there a region free firmware for Apple A-04 or A07? Mine came w/ 1st version of flatscreen Imac (so it's an A-04 (I'm not at my machine) which makes it a 1X burner)). Is there any firmware to make it a 2X or is that impossible? (Man taking an Imac apart to put in a new DVDrecorder is a pain in ass (pluss void warranty)! Can't wait for the new G5s. But till then- any ideas? Burning at 1X eats my night up! Peace

There's RPC1 firmware for your drive here:

Not sure if it changes the burn speed, though that is often caused by the type of media you buy. 4X media will burn at 1X. You need 1x or 2x media to burn at 2x. Be sure to follow the installation instructions very carefully.

It won't change the burn speed, but it will make the
drive not error out when burning to many brands
of 4x media, including Ritek G04.

Best on an A04 to go with media rated to burn at 2x,
like TDK. Any 4x media wil still burn at 1x, because
the specs for the A04 are set to burn at 2x max.
