  1. I have a chance to pick up a Canon SD100 Elph for 200$ USD.
Should I pick it up or check out another camera but similar (<300$)?
I know the specs on the camera but I was wondering if any one here has that camera or one similar to it and would like to share any experiences with it.

I have two Canon Elph S100's and I really like them. They are great cameras for outdoor shots and situations that do not involve alot of sports-like movement. Not that great for indoor shots, flash shots or imperfect lighting situations. They are durable as hell. The original Canon batteries are expensive and the off-brand batteries mostly suck.
I also have a European Canon A200....feels cheap and requires TOP quality rechargable AA batteries for it to run correctly but takes great pictures thanks to the adjustable ISO setting(50 thru 400 and Automatic).

My next camera will be a Digital SLR I think..

Hech is right about the aftermarket batteries. They suck. Better to spend the money for the real Canon battery.

I've got a Powershot S300 Digital Elph and like it a lot. I got a nice surprise - I took some vacation pics with it and had some of the better ones blown up to 16x20. There's no apparent pixelation or other effects. I think the algorithm Canon uses is superb and is apparently more of a factor than raw resolution. The optics are also fantastic, and this is a 2MP camera. You'd swear it was taken with a 35mm looking at the 16x20.

    Canon rules digital pics IMHO.

  4. Best to go to the store & put it in your hands & see how that feels.

Office Depot is having all sorts of weird sales, people report Nikon 5400's going for $59 but only if you bring it up for a price scan, but thats rare as its a $600 camera. Some Olympus's (3mp) are around $150

Yep...I love my little Canon's. Their software on the other hand...
I had to re-install my original software from the S100....then update THAT software to get it to recognize the newer camera AND my cool little Canoscan scanner)....and that is with XP Pro.
The "new" software just would not recognize anything but the newer A200 camera....weird.

  7. I have PowerShot A60 and my father has a PowerShot G3. We both swear by Canon. Brilliant cameras - my A60 is "only" a two megapixel camera but the shots it takes are razor-sharp and very true to what I see with my eyes. That has to be a good thing.

    Canon all the way.
