  1. I used "Smartripper" to rip the DVD. Then DVDx to encode it as an SVCD. The problem happens about 01:04:50 into the movie I get an error stating:

The DeCCS has found an invalid block and that the drive may NOT be unlocked. You should try playing the disc in WinDVD or PowerDVD to unlock it then try again.

This is really odd I have never seen this error before. I have tried encoding directly from the DVD as well and I get the same error as when I try from the rip on my hard drive. I have even deleted all the files and re-ripped the disc, still no luck...... Any ideas?

You got the answer in the message alreaddy. Play the dvd.
Last week I got this message, I played half the dvd, no luck. But there was a animated menu, that I always skipped. After playing that menu (about 90 sec), everything worked fine. Good luck.
If nothing helps, try DVD Decrypter.

  3. Ok, but is that if I'm encoding directly from the DVD?
Because I would rather encode from my hard drive...

And as you all know not all of the files on the DVD are ripped to the hard drive, so I am not able to play anything other than the movie if trying to encode it from the hard drive.....?

I am one of these guys who ruined a dvd drive by encoding off the dvd directly. So I recommend to rip to the HD. Smartripper must complete the rip without errors. If it doesn't, play the dvd once again to unlock.
