Hi
can any one help me here?!
Ive just completd a long gruelling trip in pursuit of a half decent mpeg2 file from avi files. Thanks to this web site, I've got there via a couple of purchases:
tepgenc for the conversion of avi to mpeg2 video and mpg1 audio
and now their dvd authoring program too.
Thonly thing thats not working now is that having selected source data and gotten to the burning bit, I end up with a dvd that does work on my pc via my power software but not at all on my desktop dvd player. Ive burnt two cds now with same result.
Im assuming that the following events during burning have something to do with it but i'm simply not sure!:
At the beginining of burning stage, a message came up saying 'an error occured during reading'.
When i threw in another dvd, it burnt the dvd anyway but stopped ta 98% with the same message.
the two buttons that i didnt do anything with were the iso buttons. could they have something to do with it?
Clueless but near the summit!![]()

Could be a couple of things...
A couple of questions...what program are you burning with, what media are you using, what are your outputing to from TMPGEnc DVD Author (burning, folders, ISO...).
The first thing I would suggest is to have TMPGEnc DVD Author make an ISO as your output. Then I would use DVD Decrypter to burn it. (Decrypter is a free download at www.dvddecrytper.com).
I think the reason your current discs are not playing in your standalone is because of the burn errors that you had when burning it.
If the ISO/DVD Decrypter method does not work I would take a look at the media you are using, but I would bet ISO/Decrypter would fix your problem. -
im going to give it a go
its perhaps the fact that i didn't create an iso image and dump it onto dvd ? to be honest i dont know what it's even for!
thanks northcat8 - really appreciated -
Well it's not that you can't have TMPGEnc DVD Author output folders or even burn the disc for you...you should be able too, but I've never had TDA burn for me, and I only output folders if I have to compress the DVD a little. Otherwise I always output to ISO.
You didn't tell me what software you were using to burn, so I am going to assume it is TMPGEnc DVD Author or Nero.
ISO is basically an image file of your DVD. It's really useful if you need to burn several copies of the same DVD. Just insert a blank DVD disc into your burner, start DVD Decrypter, wait for Decrypter to read or find the disc, then go to "FILE" > ISO > write, this will take you to a new part of Decrypter and you will have a little explorer folder icon, click it and browse to find your ISO file, open it and then click the same button you click to rip and it will burn it straight away.
I've found this method to be so consistent that it is the only way I burn DVDs. Even my own original creations that require me to burn 40 copies...I burn them all this way. -
thanks so much . yes you're right - it was tmpgenc dvd author.
ive tried to use dvd encrypter but it said that i needed a different version of something. i cant quite recall what it is though but i scribbled it down somewhere.
i can t understand why but the dvd author that i use sometime rejects dvds with message saying read error although semmingly haphazardly..
one minute yes - the next no..
strangley - when it does work. the dvd plays fine on desktop dvd player but not the dvd drive on which it was burnt.. it judders at lot with all dvd player software that i have. It does play fine on another dvd drive that i have. Im using bulkpaq discs and an nec 1300a burner -
sounds like your DVD players don't like your media. I don't know what you are using, but it could be as simple as you just got a bad batch.
If it won't burn using Decrypter in ISO mode, I would have to think that's media or maybe your burner is not DMA enabled.
I don't know what you are talking about with needing a new version of Decrypter, I still use 3.1.4....which about 4-5 versions ago...it's the first one I downloaded back in the day.
