  3. I used Nero Recode. I backedup just the movie and cut off most of the end credits. I managed to get the compression to 69%

I used shrink and did it at 51% with the deep analysis but I don't think it makes much of a difference. Some will say it does but I couldn't tell.

  5. For best possible quality I went with DVD-RB and CCE.

I ran the movie through DVDShrink with the movie only and only the needed soundtracks with No Compression. Then I used the input from that to encode with DVD Rebuilder. Stunning.

  8. I used dvd2svcd (most currnet version) using CCE as the encoder and the special plug-in that is bundled with dvd2svcd. The plug-in makes a one pass close to looking like a 4 or 5 pass encode. You can't tell the difference from the original. Took about 4 hours though.

  10. I backed it up to 2 discs for disc 1 using DVD decrypter, then splitting and burning with Intervideo DVDcopy, and then backed up Disc 2 using DVD shrink and all was well.

Back up to 2 discs, best method to not lose quality.
Other than that, buy the new Benq DL burner, spend $$ for some dual layer DVD+R and copy with no loss!

  11. Is CCE difficult to use?

  12. Ripped with Decrypter, movie only with 3 secs of closing credit with Shrink 3..0 beta5 (compression was 69% I think), burned with CopyToDVD...looks like original.

Just make sure to label the backup correctly as 'The Penultimate Samurai'.

Not if you wrap DVD-REbuilder around it.

  16. Thanks, Shudder.

Does anyone know if CCE is available for download?

for those using recoding methods - don't forget the forced subs (unless you understand japanese that is ... - on the R2 they are 2nd set of subs not the first (in their own sub stream).

Just did it myself using DVD2SVCD with the RobA plugin (one pass VBR with a result that matches 4-5 pass CCE), used Vobsub to create the forced subs, IfoEdit to create the vobs and good old Nero to burn.

For a long movie - I am very impressed with the quality I achieved - soooo much better than DVDShrink....

  20. I made it easy on myself to back up my own LS DVD

    I used DVDShrink to put CH1 - 20 on 1 DVD
then used it again to put CH21-End on another DVD

Perfect Copy. I wouldn't want to compress this movie at all.
