  1. I recently purchased the Sony DRU530A writer and today I went to the official sony upgrade site to see if there was a firmware to upgrade. When I went there and went to the drop down box I saw the DRU530a drive and also saw the DRU540A. They look like identical drives. Anyone know anything about the 540a? I haven't ever read anything about it.

  2. After 9 months of error-free burning, my 510A died last week. My replacement policy with CompUSA allowed for identical replacement, but the 510A is not being made. They urged me to replace with the 540A, just released this month. So far, perfect burns with all media... it seems in all ways a superior burner to the 510.

    All Sony needs to do now is produce some 12x DVD media to match the highest burning speed of the 540.

    540= 8x for dvd-r and 12x for dvd+r.

  4. I'm 90% sure that the 540A, like the 530A (and unlike the 700A), is a rebranded Optorite. If it's roughly the same physical size as the 530A, then I'm 99% sure.
