  1. in reading the instruction book for the Pioneer DVD (DV-454/350) it says the following regarding DVD-R/RW compatability:
    -unit will play DVD-R/RW discs that were recorded using DVD-Video format;
    -will not play DVR-RW discs that were recorded using the Video Recording format
    -unfinalised DVD-R/RW discs cannot be played

    can someone pls explain that DVD-video format means and what are unfinalised discs?

    does that mean if i burn a dvd using my Mac (or PC) I will be unable to play them in the DVD player?

    many thanks

    I am unsure what this video recording is. Probably something to do with stand alone dvd recorders. All dvds you burn on your computer will work as long as they are make properly.

    Here goes and i hope i'm right.
    Dvd Format Video is where you have Video_Ts and Audio_Ts folders.
    If you are using nero to burn then place all the files .vob's etc into the Video_Ts folder. The Audio_Ts folder is empty. When you tell it to burn it asks you if you want to finalise the disk...You have to click yes to do so. I know my Panasonic wont play un finilised disks.....

    VIDEO_TS is DVD Format
    VIDEO_RM is Video Recording format [ie ones you get from settop dvd recorders]

    Its really easy to convert them over.... alll you do is...
    copy the VIDEO_RM over to your HD. Rename as VIDEO_TS and reburn as you would normally do if you had a VIDEO_TS folder.

    and you want to know what is even stranger......
    VIDEO_RM seems to be compatible in every player EXCEPT Pioneer

    strange huh
