  1. what is a firmware??

    saw that in a bunch of posts, but got no idea what it is...

  2. that's the software in the device, like a CD-RW. Sometimes they update that and you need to "FLASH" it. But most of the time you srcew the device up and then you have a paper weight. But some people do it correctly and make there 4x burner burn at 8x with the FIRMWARE update.

    The reason they call it 'firmware' is that it is 'burned' into non-volatile memory on the device. That way it is not lost when the device is turned off. RAM memory, such as the memory on your computer loses everthing when the power is off.
