    First off,
I've been reading a lot of the posts here and my brain is loaded with info! I wanted to make sure I read as much as I could before bothering anyone with a newbie question.

I ended up downloading a lot of programs but I don't think I know what I'm doing yet.

I bought a DVA-2100 to burn vhs to vcd. I wanted to fit a hour show into svcd. my 80 min CDR can only take up to 39-40 minutes worth in a svcd. No biggie I thought. I could just burn the last 20 minutes of the show and then "glue" the mpegs together on my computer to equal the full show.

How do I go about doing this? Apparently the mpegs the DVA 2100 makes (which I thought were mpeg-2 due to svcd) can't be converted by any program listed in the forum (assuming I've used all of them).

If I'm a bone head and already have them in the needed format to burn to a cd, how do I authorize them to a CDR so my Apex DVD player can read them? When I put the test CDR in it, in my DVD menu screen there was a folder but it wouldn't do anything nor let me open it.

I'm sorry for being an idiot, I love all this stuff, and want to learn it very bad.

    Thanks for your time
    Rich

  2. Hi, If I understand your predicament correctly you need to burn your cd as vcd or svcd not simply copy the files over, am pretty new to this myself so I always stand to be corrected, I know that both Nero and EZ creator 5 will automatically format the cd to VCD, however as yet have not found how to burn to SVCD although that is the next thing on my list, apparently it still can be done in Nero, although I can only find VCD by following the wizard but havent looked too closely, if you dont have nero you can download it from a number of, shall we say iffy sources, I got mine via edonkey2000.com plus it has acces to many ripped movies.

    Hope this helps

Thanks for the reply. I figured the only thing I was missing was Nero 5 or the new Easy CD creator 5. I should be getting the newest Nero 5 next week. The demo version of Easy CD creator 5 doesn't allow you to do the Svcd/Vcd burning.
I will try to download the Nero version. Maybe that's the problem. I figure I don't have to worry about creating VCD as my dva2100 unit makes them for me.
If Nero works for me, then I can move to the next step of creating menus and subtitles. But first... gotta see if Nero is my answer.

    I appreciate the response! Thanks!

  4. Also try VCDEasy from the tools section, it uses CDRDAO to burn which is free, and VCDImager to create the VCD (which is also free). IT will give you the least problems, and is just a case of adding the mpeg file and clicking GO.

i will try that but it seems the problem is the mpeg that my DVA-2100 makes is not reconized by any of the convertion programs. Reading thru the postings I realized that Svcds are mpeg-2 not mpeg-1. (correct?) So I reconfigured these convertion programs to change a mpeg-2 to any format (like .avi) and none of them reconized my mpeg.

If possible could someone look at the mpeg I have and see if it's something else. It reads as .mpg. I would email it,
    if any one can help.

Nero 5 sounds easy enough, just drag the .mpg into it and it'll make it burn to a CDR. Just wondering if it won't reconize my mpg either.

It's not broken or damaged as my PowerDVD can view it and it plays fine.

  6. I know I sound like VCDEasy's biggest groupie, but if you get it and turn on the advanced mode under the tools section is an mpeg scan, it will tell you whether you have and MPEG 1 or 2, as well as framsesize and average bitrate. Also apparently some people have problems with VCD's made by NERO (though I never have). If your trying to open up MPG's then TMPGEnc won't accept them, and VDUB will only accept MPG1's, I frameserve MPG2's using DVD2AVI (it will work with non DVD MPG2's as well as DVD's) and GuadianKnot (doom9.org for downloads and guides).

I also here there's a patch to allow you to read files created by a certain card in other progs, though I can't remember if it was yours. Hope that helps, and if it didn't IM and I'll try to help somemore
