What is supposed to happen to the computer when you connect via Firewire? I have also tried it on XP it is as if the camcorder is not plugged in. There were no drivers supplied with the camcorder.

Bullseye,...You need to put down more information. First off,.. I don't think that Windows ME will work for you. I just don't think there are updated drivers,... but who knows. Windows Xp definately works.

What software are you using to "Transfer" or "Capture" the Digital Video from your Camcorder. If you connect via firewire, then there are things you must set up first. If you've never used the firewire port, then you will have to make sure that it present in your Device Manager. If it is built into your Motherboard (as mine is), then you are going to have to go into your BIOS and enable that port.

Once that is done, you have to have software that supports Digital Transfer from a Camcorder,... like Ulead VideoStudio. If that software is turned on, and your camcorder is plugged into the firewire cable (and you know that firewire is working) then the software should detect the camcorder as soon as you turn the camcorder on and put it in "VCR" mode. Once this is done, you start the transfer from the software and start the capture at the point you want.

I guess I was lucky, since my software and computer detected my camcorder the first time I plugged it in.

Since you seem to be very new to DV and camcorders, search through the DV forum and you'll find all kinds of posts that will help to educate you.

    Good luck.
