  1. Hello, and welcome to videohelp.com's Newbie 101.

Today, we are going to discuss the topic of threadjacking. If you would, let's please look at Forum Rules/AUP for a moment...

In most cases, posting outside the Off-Topic forum requires that you stay within the context of the thread itself. However, after careful and exhaustive research, we here at the Ranch of Indolikaa have determined that threadjacking is a safe practice. We will now show you how to properly hijack a thread.

We will use a common question in the Newbie/General Questions forum as our example.

I captured the movie with my Dazzle DVC-II and I normally use TMPGEnc and DVD-lab, but I thought I'd try DVDit! LE because it had some cool menu options. Can anybody help me?
Now as you can see, this opening statement leaves the door wide open for a threadjacking. First and foremost, the poster states that this is their first attempt at using DVDit! LE to create a DVD. This would normally lead other membes to believe we have a true newbie online, which would result in the post being ignored.

However, the poster goes on to say they're proficient in TMPGEnc and DVD-lab, and that is a sign of not only a smart and high educated person, but somebody who IS NOT necessarily a newbie. Now the obvious response to such a post is, "Why in the **** would you want to use DVDit! LE to author a DVD?" However, as we are here to help people first and foremost, it would be more appropriate to answer the question first.

A simple answer to a simple question. Nothing more, nothing less. No personal feelings for how poor the product truly is. Nothing to suggest the thread is well on its way to spiraling out of control.

Now all the poster has to do is thank the member for their time and input, and the thread will die, and become a valuable resource for another newbie at some point in the future. The critical elements were established in this thread for a proper forum search. However, as you and I both know, it never dies. And here's why.

And the opening has been created for an appropriate threadjack! You see, all the poster really had to say was, "Thank you." There was really nothing more to be discussed. It would be obvious that the appropriate conclusion to this thread is the poster will go back to using DVD-lab, and the world will continue on its merry way. However, by doing this, the poster has given the veteran the opportunity to expand upon their knowledge base, and thus, make an opinionated statement that will bring attention to the thread.

And the door has been opened. You see, Indolikaa injected a combination of fact (DVDit! LE does come in a more robust edition) and personal feelings (he thinks the poster would do better staying with DVD-lab) into the discussion. Given that the poster's question was answered and the issue has been settled, any continued discussion is acceptable, even if the subject matter at hand changes.

This is an appropriate situation for a threadjacking.

Another veteran user has offered his opinion in the matter. First, he has confirmed that Indolikaa isn't talking out of his ass, and second, he has reassured the poster that another viable option exists.

Now this is where you know you have carte blanche to continue on whatever path you choose. When a moderator enteres a thread and offers an opinon along the lines of discussion, the moderator is saying, "this thread is fine, I see no need to restrict it's access at this time."

It only takes one ******* to send a thread in flames. And although such conduct is usually reserved for newbies whose sole purpose is to stir hate and discontentment, sometimes our veterans are just as guilty. Now at this point, we have only diverged from a simple question on PCM audio to a preference for authoring software.

Although this seems like a violation of forum rules, it isn't. Remember, the original poster's question was answered. What we have here is nothing mroe than a greeting amongst a couple of friends who share a common passion for the digital video hobby.

As you can see, properly done, a threadjacking can be a safe and legal way to enjoy yourself on videohelp.com While there are so many other possible situations where a proper threadjack can be initiated, you must remember that there are certain situations where it is not appropriate. Let us look at the worst situation for a threadjacking: the flame war.

Now don't be confused at this point. This is not a flame war. Jim has, in a very eloquent way, told the poster what he sould do with the file in question. Jim has correctly identified that a warez violation is in progress, and having already reported the thread, he has taken the initiative to help the poster accomplish his true goal. Which is, of course, to have a copy of Kill Bill 2 on DVD.

Teegee is only asking a couple of simple questions at this point. While his tone might indicate otherwise, he is really only wanting to know two things: does the poster have any common sense (which is need-to-know, since it determines at what reading level future posts must be written at) and did he do his job as a new member, which is only asked of him to help make the community a better place. Again, no flame war in progress.

Now we have a flame war. A proper flame war only begins when a person, who is in the wrong, lashes out at those who are in the right and are only trying to correct their behavior. Generally speaking, this type of behavior will be allowed to continue for a short while, until somebody screws up royally.

Your are in violation of the forum rules are are being issued a formal warning. I suggest you read the rules more carefully before you make any future posts. Your thin skin and lack of intelligence are working against you having a long and enjoyable stay on this forum.

A moderator's entry with the Dark Blue Crayon is generally an indication that the thread will die on its own. Few members are stupid enough to push the boundaries once a moderator has booked a fellow member for a misdemeanor on the pitch. However, this does not mean that the thread is once again open for business, as we are still engaged in a flame war.

This is a threadjacking, and it is not an appropriate threadjacking, either. Such a subject doesn't dovetail well with a flame war that began over a warez post. Bambi would've been advised to start a new thread...

As you can see, there are certain situations where threadjacking is just not appropraite. As you gain time and experience here at videohelp.com, you will better learn what your boundaries are and avoid any unpleasantries.

We thank you for your time. I will see all of you next week for Newbies 102: The Indolikaa Special.

    Class is now dismissed.

The following has been a humorous look at one of the more common happenings at this website. It is intended to be funny, and should not be interpreted as a green light to threadjack.

An appropriate example of threadjacking. Although it lacks any intelligent content, the technique does fall within the parameters established.

BTW -- Anyone one here catch Anna Nicole Smith on Leno last night?? Was she hot or what?? ...

... Well, Indo -- on a scale of 1-10 how would you grade my "threadjack"

I think the natural progression from "****" to Anna Nicole was rather fluid.

I would have to give that one at least a 9. Very fluid indeed, although the use of the word 'fluid' with any mention of Anna Nicole in the same post is not something that should be considered tasteful.

She has lost 69 pounds and looks pretty darn good. Fortunately, it appears that her weight loss did not affect her JUGGS !!

I see this has become a successful "threadjack". I'm so proud !!

  12. Indo -- There is one form of post that has been overlooked -- TROLLING. Posting in order to incite a "flame war". Here is my example ...

Anna Nicole was on Leno last night and she was HOT!! Anyone who does not think so must be ******* GAY!!?? Who cares if she was a fat whore and is now a slimmer whore. Did you see her JUGGS!!?? How could any red-blooded male NOT want to hit that! Did you not get breast fed enough as a child? Got a grudge against women? Go home to your inflatible animals and toss-off while watching the "Teletubbies" you fag !!

Well, Indo -- What do you think? Is this considered trolling? And a "doublepost" to boot !!! Damn, I'm good !!

Anna Nicole Smith... but that's not saying much, I would have hit it when she was fat...I mean really what's the difference? 6-12 beers? I'm going to drink them anyway, might as well be before

I didn't see her on Leno but I've seen her on E! and no the weightloss did not affect the twins...they still look like 2 bear cubs wrestling under a T-shirt...by the way...God Bless Tits...2nd greatest creation ever.

What kind of nipples do you guys prefer? I like big nipples, big ol' finger tip nipples, the kind that stand up and could put an eye out if you aren't careful

well inny nipples scared me! although that was weird all round, one was pierced so not allowed to be sucked in, the other was completely inside out.

nipples that start off three inches wide but shrink when they go hard are cool. plenty of meat there to chew!
just generally they have to be big enough you can lick them and suck them at the same time. i'll have to try some brown ones at some point.

... firm erect nipples that resemble radio tuner knobs or Tater Tots. I bet Capmaster misses those as vinyl pleasure sheep don't have breast -- or so I've heard.

  28. Flan,

There's a big difference between tits and udders. Even if there are 6 nipples, they have to be small.

Don't know if Cappie likes it vaginal or "going up the Hershey Highway" , but I would think that "riding the "rocket through the Miky Way" is "udderly" impossible without actual breasts.

She was incrediblely flat-chested, believe it not, before doctor frankenstein created her/him/it/whatever

Was too much the time one of 'em broke in public - a sight that was.

She did actually look human once upon a time...and not bad looking at all either.
