Hi -
Using Adobe Premier 6.0
1. Some images are shaped like the Television screen (slightly wider than taller) and fit just fine.
2. Some images are vertically oriented, and have some black space on both sides.
3. When "Maintain Aspect" is not selected, and "Lock aspect ratio" is not selected, the result is: Vertically oriented images that don't fit the width of the screen get stretched to the width of the screen, abnormally.
4. When "Maintain Aspect" is selected, and "Lock aspect ratio" is selected, the result is: A frustrating black bar of pointless black space on each side of all images, resulting in slightly slimmer wide photos, and slightly slimmer vertically oriented photos too.
5. My goal? To have the vertically oriented photos maintain their aspect ratio and the wide ones as well, without those annoying black sidebars.
Note: Im aware of two locations for this aspect ratio setting.
a) Edit, Preferences, General and Still Image, Lock Aspect.
b) Right clicking on the image in the timeline, going to Video Options, and Maintain Aspect Ratio.
My assumption is they are one in the same setting. If they are not, please let me know.

Lock Aspect is used to set Maintain Aspect Ratio default at Premier start up.
One problem I had using Premier6.0 was not maintaining aspect ratio to strech vertically. After rendering the Time Line, those stills would come out black. Problem was solved in Premier 6.5.

The simple solution would be to crop all images to 720 x 540 or 720 x 534(NTSC). Once they are croped to the correct size, import them into Premiere. That way all images will display correctly.
Got my retirement plans all set. Looks like I only have to work another 5 years after I die........
