  1. I have upto now encoded probably 200 or so DivX movies to DVD and all have played no problem on my DVD players (Sony DVP-S525, NextBase and PS2).

I have now purchased a Mustek PL207A portable which is a cracking little player, but I have encountered the following problem:

All of my DivX movies converted and burnt to DVD skip in the new player causin the picture to jump forward but the sound to remain on time, so the synch is out by a mile.

I have ruled out media problems because any DVD rips that I then burn play perfect on the new player, thus this has also ruled out problems with Nero.

My only conclusion is that during the encoding process ( I use Tmpgenc and Tmpgenc DVD Author) I am using a setting that the new player doesn't like.

Any suggestions as to what this might be? I am currently re-encoding over and over again with the different settings but it is costing me a fortune in time and dvd's.

    Cheers

  2. Can't solve your problem for you, but I suggest investing in a few rewriteable disks so as not to end up with an endless supply of coasters. Has worked well for me when trying something new. Nyah Levi

Could you clarify that, please? It's still not clear to me why you feel it's not a media issue.

  4. No problem.

I can rip DVD's using DVDshrink and burn the files with Nero to DVD+r, DVD-r of any of the brands I have ranging from cheap to quality, and the burnt discs play perfectly.

As soon as I burn self-encoded stuff the new player doesn't like it one bit and skips, yet they play perfect on my other players.

    Thanks for your interest.

  5. Probably a minimum or maximum bitrate problem.

  6. Have tried between 2000 and 8000 plus but makes no difference, thanks anyway.

Constant or variable? If variable, too low a bit rate could still be the problem. Some players don't like it when the bitrate goes very low.

Only other thing I can think of is that the player doesn't like the media.

  8. Thanks for the interest guys, I have sorted the problem!!

I have found that as soon as I encode with a PCM audio track in Tmpenc or author with an AC3 audio track during DVD authoring the problem of the skipping goes away and the DVD's play flawlessly. Obviously this player has a problem with Mpeg1 Layer II audio that I was encoding with, seems very odd but at least now I am very happy.

This explains why all my DVD copies were working great (Digital audio) while the MP2 DivX conversions were skipping.

    Thanks for your input guys!
