I received my Prodisc from Rima.com last Tuesday and was able to start using them this past sunday. My results are so far no coasters, but to be fair I have only burned aprox 20 of the 150 that I order. I do like the inkjet, both white and silver for printing to. Will still keep everyone posted. I am using a Microadvantage 4x DVD Recorder. I have a Pioneer A03 but it is in storage until I find a new place to live.

  2. I received a 50-pack of Prodisc+R yesterday from Rima for $30 + shipping/handling. Everything looks good. My only complaint would be that it took 2 weeks to receive the discs.

I haven't used Prodisc before, so I'm excited to try something new.

  3. Just saw these on Rima for $0.48 a piece, or $48.00 for a pack of 100. That's a pretty crazy price!

Edit: Should clarify those were the +R/4X.

why is that a crazy price? look at the price of CDRs compared to when they were new on the scene!! just supply and demand, bro.
    BTW 4x Prodisc DVD-R were $42 for 100 last week at supermediastore.com.

And $39 this week. I received 100, burned 25 so far. No errors and a straight line on CDSpeed. Looks like they will be my brand for my Pioneer for a while.

  6. I guess it's not that crazy, but they were about $0.55 a piece just last week!

  7. a few people have already had problems with this disks including myself. They aren't solid media and I'd doubt they are very reliable. We'll see months to come if people can still read theirs. Media prices drop but not 40% in a week or two. That's not even a sale price. I got mine a couple of weeks ago and they were $60 for 100 pack. I'm sure rima knows there's issues with these disks and are trying to dump their supply. Their price for Ritek interestingly is the same as it was when I bought my prodiscs so buyer beware.

    Give us a break!
Why would rima or supermediastore both be out of stock at the same time. (3 days ago) Then all of a sudden have them back in stock if they were trying to dump their inventory?? Don't answer that...it was a rhetorical question...

  9. stiltman, give yourself a break. You obviously have very little idea that being out of stock in their warehouses means that they don't have a contract to have to purchase "x" amount more. You have no idea how something that complicated works, huh? Of course not. Don't answer that, it was a rhetorical question. There's a reason the prices on those disks dropped as fast as they did but I wouldn't expect you to figure that out. Read this thread, other people had problems with these great prodiscs other then myself.

  10. Yep, some have had problems. Yep, some people have problems with all media. It doesn't make it bad, just makes it bad for the people that can't get it to work. I can and so do many others. You and a few others. I feel bad for you....really I do...Your missing out on some good media

Yes, I know all about distributions systems and contracts...remember we're not all 12 year olds here

  11. oh, ok, well if you understand about contracts then your rhetorical question had no bearing to begin with. This is a forum to help and assit others, is it not? That's what everyone does and i'm doing the same thing. If the media is great and works great then i'll post it is great. If it doesn't, then am I supposed to lie or be afraid to post something other then the general consensus because my results weren't the same?

I've used more pieces of media and more variations then many others and I am very aware of the prices at all times. All i'm saying is that i've seen media prices drop in unison. I haven't seen one brand of disks drop and more specifically, drop considerabley while most other brands are priced the same as they were weeks or months ago. What makes prodisc so special that they'd drop the price as drastically as they have?

Don't feel bad for me, I just got 100 free Memorex 4x DVD+R Ritek disks which have been flawless. I posted that in the "off topic" forum but I wouldn't expect you would of seen it because like so many other posts it was butchered by you with information that had nothing to do with the original post. I tried to make others aware that they had nothing to lose by filling out the Memorex form but they wouldn't of seen it either because the thread was hijacked.

Holy cow. Now this is crazy. Just 2 months ago. I bought prodisc dvdrs for 60 cents each. Granted these are now matte finish as opposed to the shiny ones I bought so I don't know the real difference but at a savings of 21 cents each I don't really care.

  13. Look, these are certified GRADE A by Pioneer and I have a Pioneer 107D. While any media can be a problem for anyone and there is no guarantee for the future, at least I have something from a company I trust. They think these are good and a high percentage of Pioneer users are experiencing no problems. Most problems are with other brands of burners. As for the flames directed at Rima, I have never seen such a high rating (nine point eight eight) for any other company. Even Newegg.com gets 9.8. What rational reason would Rima have to suddenly turn evil?

    http://www.resellerratings.com/seller2551.html

So everyone is welcome to their opinion but I am not going to attack anyone for their opinion. I am inclined to pay attention to facts. A drop in price of 4X media (they all are going down by the way, not just Prodisc) when there is an influx of 8X and DL is not a conspiracy. It is the market at work.
Still a few bugs in the system...

  14. In the past I too have bought several hundred Prodisc, and they have been pretty good. Last 2 batches have had lots of problems, freezing up and not being able to burn all the way out beyond 4gb.

Obviously somehting has changed whether it be the factory that is making them, quality controls or the like. I have just seen too many posts here and elsewhere the last few weeks confirming these new issues. The fact vendors are dropping the price like a rock is also curious since other brands are not dropping as much/fast.

I remember what happened to Ritek in the sense all of a sudden there were many issues and complaints. While Prodisc has never been as good as Ritek, I thought it was fairly reliable - now I would consider it in the same class as CMC.

Sure Pioneer may have certified Prodisc to work with their drives, but I suspect any Prodisc discs submitted to Pioneer for testing are not the current factory runs which have issues, but rather the first runs which generally were pretty good.

  17. I burned a +R 4X and -R 4X prodisc(s) last night, have watched and they play fine to the edge. I tried running at the fastest forward speed all the way through as that is where I see read problems occur, the FF suddenyl slows down and resumes with read errors for me. For me they seem good and as I don't likw buying online, I prefer to pay and walk out the door with them. the price of $27 for - and $27.50 for +, spindles of 50 is good. These are the plain shiny silver topped no markings that will work a treat in my Casio CW-75 (CW-50 with keyboard).

If I run into problems I'll post it.

Sony DRU 500A. Somebody else is trying them in an Optorite 4X burner too.

    Cheers

These are the DVD-R 4X PRODISC WHITE HUB INKJET PRINTABLES I ordered from http://www.blankmedia.ca. Ten burns into a set of 100, and so far, so good. They burn fine on my Pioneer A06, and they print beautifully on my Epson R300.

Here's How they're described on the site:
Highest Pro-Grade white printable DVD-R discs, with no stacking ring. Full-face type design provides more printing area, from about 1mm inside the outer edge to about 4mm around the center hole. Excellent compatibility with the Rimage Everest I & II Color Thermal Transfer Printers. Also printable with other brands of direct-to-disc thermal transfer, as well as inkjet hi-res color printers. High quality matte white top coating is applied over a highly compatible purple bottom data layer for excellent compatibility -- with DVD burners or recorders, thermal and inkjet color printers and over 90% of DVD players.

  19. I, for one, think it is time to change the name of this thread. Now that these disks are around 38 cents each I don't think we are "taking a chance".

I love this quote from earlier in the thread "I swear soon we'll be getting these for 50 cents a pop." I may be off by a few cents but at 61 cents each I think the 8X Prodisc are close to the price for the 4X when this discussion was started. Maybe we should start to "take a chance" on those next.

  20. How do you get the free shipping from supermediastore? When I try to buy them, but when i get to checkout the shipping charge is always around $7. Do i have to enter a coupon code or something? Yes i did select ground shipping.

I am on my 4th or 5th (?) 50 paq of prodiscS03 silver/pearl top printables...will be getting more. Cheaper then the RiData White top printable G04 that I've been using. ~6 coasters. If I remember correctly 4 bad initialization lead in error, one had print ink surface scratched from the clear protector disc that came on 50 pag, and a few because of my keyboard-chair interface issues.... The print surface on the S03 seems more scratch prone then the white G04 when unprinted, but once printed they hold ink well as long as they are not over satuated. 8)

Edit: just remember I had another ring error last nite with a S03. One big (thick) ring at the inner part and one very thin ring about 2/3 out on the disk. Tried another and it worked fine.

8x prodisc eh? I'm assuming my pioneer dvr-107d will work well with it correct? People have told me the pioneer 8x burners will only burn on selected DVDs but since prodisc is pioneer certified they should be buddy buddy correct?

Get the most current firmware and check the revision history.
Most of the updated changes have had to do with 8X media and it looks like 1.15 was the update for Prodisc.
