I notice now and then that when playing my backups, they will go out of synch. If I stop, then restart the dvd playback, it will go back in synch, then, it usually will go out of synch again. It tends to happen less as I get further into the movie. I'm thinking it's the player - it is an older sylvania (3 years old), but am not sure... Have any of you had this problem, and what does it tend to be? It is intermittant, not all the time. Would a progressive scan dvd player be better at solving this? I've heard different things.

    thanks

  2. It sounds like the problem is with your player. I had an old DVD player that used to do this with even original DVDs. The fact that you can stop it and restart it, and the audio goes back into sync tells you that it isn't the disc.

I'm afraid you would need to invest in a new player, but fortunately they aren't too expensive now.

Thanks. This is what I suspected, and yes, mine will do this with original DVD's as well. No big deal, it's an old player, and I want to upgrade anyway.

Are there any reported difficulties with Progressive scan DVD players and DVD backups? Or, is it best to stick with a just newer standard player?

  4. My DVD player supports progressive scan and gives me no trouble whatsoever when playing backups. I don't know much on this subject but I believe that progressive scan yields a higher quality when used with a progressive source and a progressive-capable TV.

The best thing you could do is go online, choose a player that fits your wallet and check it out on this site under the "DVD Players" tab. This will confirm all the player abilities and user experiences with it.

    Good luck,

  5. Did you play the DVD in your computer? If it is still out of sync, then it's not the DVD player. Be sure to close all application before yop burn. I had this problem before. It burns correctly after I changed the software.
