  1. I have not yet come up with a simple process to take my home video from my Sony 8MM digital camera 'directly' to DVD with chapter points at various times like every 5 minutes, 7 minutes, etc. I have considered a stand alone DVD recorder but I have all the hardware, I just need the right software - I think. All I wish to do is archive my 100's of 8MM video tapes (about 1 hr each) to DVD, no menus, just chapters at every few minutes. Yes, I have searched the forum archives for advice but I can't seem to find anything related to 'archiving directly to DVD'.

    Below is my hardware.

    Any suggestions appreciated!

    - Sony Digital video camera with Firewire out
    - 1.8 Mhz PC with 768MB RAM - Windows XP
    - Firewire capture card
    - External Firewire 150GB HDD
    - Sony DRU-500AX DVD burner

  2. Sonic MyDVD or NeoDVD will burn directly to disc BUT only at 1x.

  3. Ulead DVD MovieFactory has a "Direct to Disc" option:

Looks like it captures to hard drive first, then automatically starts burning. I've got DMF but have never used this feature.

Mainconcept encoder will convert DV to MPG on the fly. You can then put it into TMPGEnc DVD author or equiv. to add chapters. This system works good if you don't need to edit. Editing is much easier to do in DV format.

    Hi rwdozier,

This link might prove useful, as well as the one immediately after it - it links to how I capture from my camcorder through to getting a DVD.

I have to say, I've enhanced what I do but not updated that post. Feel free to ask questions...

    Hope that helps. Good luck...
