  1. Does anyone know of any sites sort of similar to this one but dealing with Audio recording. I want to convert a pile of vinyl to CD-R and a site like this with all its tips and advice would really help better the quality of what I can achieve.

    Those are the two I hit most frequently.

    sucessful transfer is relative, but your best bet is to have a quality soundcard, preferebly with RCA or 1/4" inputs, a good mixer or reciever with a tape out, high-quality cables, and a good turntable with a fresh needle.

    on the software side, you can do a lot with freeware, Audacity is a decent audio editor. Wavelab is good, SoundForge is good.

    May I ask one quick noooob type question?

    When recording tape or vinyl, what should the db be set at for peak.
    I have a coply of Clean 5 but am still trying to get to grips with it.
