Man I have had it.
How many applications must I play with to just simply burn a DIVX avi file to a DVD disc to be played on a standalone DVD layer...
Ulead DVD workshop and DVD Moviefactory both crap out.
I thought I would be smart and use copy toDVd but you need to convert from divx to mpeg 2 first.
Not a problem I would use Nero 6 as Nero six autimatically converts mp3 to a standard audio CD so my logic follows that it would convert an AVI to a playable DVD WRONg WRONG WROng.
Ok, so I will follow the standard examples using TMPGenc and then burn using TMPGEnc DVD,
No Good I cannot reduce the file size in TMPGenc to 98% of disc it always goes to 125% of disk no matter what I change.
I cannot believe the problems I am having to do something which sounds relatively simple.
Help Please.....![]()

If you can't reduce the size in tmpgenc it is probably because of VBR audio and then does tmpgenc reads the runtime incorrect.

I wish people would get out of their heads that converting divx to DVD is supposed to be a painless process. Success only comes to the patient and the persistant.

Don't know what part of the world you are in but there is a little DVD player made by Phillips model 642 which I got for $69.95 that will everything including Avi / Divx directly to your TV. Just burn to CD and pop it in.
It makes a lot more sense to convert from DVD to Divx with one of the many utilities out there, one of which is Dr. Divx. A simple one step product that really produces a very nice final Avi/Divx. DVD to Divx convertion starts with a very good source ( depending ) on the DVD and creates a file about 1/8-1/10th the original size which look pretty damn good on a normal midsized TV. Assuming people are trying to convert a downloaded Dvix which in most case though not all, are pretty misserable in qualtiy, to DVD is like trying to paint a Hugo to Look like Porsche!!No DVD can withstand the power of DVDShrink along with AnyDVD! -
You need 3 applications to get this done: Virtual Dub, TMPGEnc & TMPGEnc DVD Author (aka TDA).
1. Extract the audio from the avi file to .wav format using Virtual Dub. There are guides to the left that can help you with that.
2. Use TMPGEnc to convert to MPEG2 format. Load the .avi file as the video source and the .wav file as the audio source. You must pay attention to the video bitrate and the audio bitrate on the next-to-last screen when using the wizard to get your mpeg2 file sized to fit onto a DVD. Max allowable is 4464MB or thereabouts, so make sure you set it lower than that to allow for menus and stuff. Probably around 4300MB is sufficient. Again, there are guides to the left that cover this and other settings in TMPGEnc.
3. Use TDA to author DVD with menus and such.
Now, you mentioned that you can't get the disc below 125%.... how are you trying to accomplish this? What steps, specifically, did you take to try to reduce the finished file size? -
the fact that your output turns out to be 125% of the size of the DVD has been an issue with the choice of VFAPI plugin in my experience. Go to Option-->Environmental Setting....----> click on the VFAPI plugin tab, then increase the priority of DirectShow Multimedia File Reader until its at the top of the list. Hopefully this will fix your problem.

rycebrnr909 - you are the man!
Dude I dont know how you found out about that setting but that was it.
I burnt my first DVd leaving the setting to its default which created a 10gb file - I then used DVDshrink to reduce and burn.
The quality was crap - I had an extra three hours of blank footage at the end ??? also no sound.
I have now set the setting to what rycebrnr909 has sugested it now tells me that it will fit onto one disk without probs -it is now encoding - I will let you all know how it turns out..
Thanks all. -
You can try my tool DIKO:
http://kvcd.net/forum/viewforum.php?f=79
It handles the process automatically and can even burn the disc in the end of the process if you want. But requires CCE SP and some other freeware (don't worry), you just have to install then and point the path to DIKO. It also uses a optimized avisynth script to improve a bit the quality of the AVI (but won't do miracles of course).
