I recently obtained a 1.5 gig .mkv file. Ugh. After a bit of searching I found posts by Wiseweasel and QShartle which led me to MKVtoolnix. Now MKVtoolnix seems to work nicely, I can demux the mkv etc without problems.

However in the man pages it says that I should be able to extract both streams into a new container, by doing something like 'mkvextract tracks movie.mkv 1:extracted.rm 3:extracted.rm'. I understand where the numbers come from and what they mean. My question is that I have tried to do this but into an avi format instead of rm. But no luck. The final file doesn't seem large enough to have both streams inside it (and it doesn't play). Anyone have any experience with this app? Can it 'do' avi?
