  1. I am trying to capture VHS clips to fill up a DVD.

The problem is that my source tapes suck and I need to clean 'em up.
I'm part way through this, but Im now stuck.

    Prime example:

I captured a 2 minute clip of my little brother at his 5th grade talent show using VirtualDub from a VCR tape, using a Leadtek Winfast cap card.........

It looks like this in AVIcodec:

    File : 67 Mb (67 Mb), duration 0:02:04, type AVI, 1 audio stream(s), quality 98 %
    Video : 46 Mb, 3128 Kbps, 29.970 fps, res. 640*480 (4:3), MP42 = MS MPEG4 V2, Supported
    Audio : 20 Mb, 1411 Kbps, 44100 Hz, 2 chan., 0x1 = PCM, Supported

I post-filtered the video with VirturalDubMod to brighten and clean it up a bit, and then I extracted (technically "copied") the audio from it because I needed to remove the hiss. No problem there, I used SoundSoap to fix the audio. (The reason I said "copied" is because the original AVI is still the same after "extracting" the audio to a seperate WAV file. I thought "extracting" meant that the audio would be pulled out completely which would leave me seperate files - one being VIDEO, one being AUDIO, but after doing so I have a new AUDIO file but still have audio and video in the in the original AVI)

How the heck do I put the video and audio back together? Honest, I looked extensively through google and searched this site but I'm feeling pretty stupid now.

Any help would be really appreciated. And if I am doing things the hard way, by all means, flame away, but please be specific.

    Hi intelliQ,

So, from what you say, it sounds like you have the following:

    1. The cleaned up AVI with the original audio in
    2. The extracted audio - same as in 1.

I might be missing something, but if you've got cleaned up video with the audio you want (item 1), can't you just discard item 2?

If not, the you can use VirtualDub to combine AVI video with WAV audio. I haven't done it for a while, so am a bit rusty on the steps but it's something like this:

    1. Load the cleaned up AVI.
    2. Under "Video", set "Direct Stream Copy".
    3. Under "Audio" (this is where I'm rusty) I think there's an option that allows you to load your separated WAV file.
    4. Under "Audio" set to "Full Processing Mode".
    5. File -> Save as AVI...

The above is roughly what you're looking to do (I think)...

    Hope that helps...

  3. Daamon, thank you.

Your directions were more clear than the guides I came across.

You made it way too easy, lol.

No problem. Glad it was so easy to follow...

    I presume it worked OK?
