When you download TMPGen you can use it (or test the new features) for one month before the MPEG encoder engine stops. If you look at the release history for TMPGen they were on a track to release a new update just about every month going back for a long time. However, the last version 2.521 was released on 9/26/03. Therefore, this is the end of a Free version of TMPGen.

Also, last year there was a post somewhere on this web site that contained a comparison of the 3 major MPEG encoders (TMPGen, Mainconcept, and CCE)and contains sample shots of the encoding. The conclusion of the evaluator was that TMPGEn was the winner.

Since then there has been considerable changes made to all these systems and there are other encoders available now, each could be the best for some specific application.

What's the chance of having this encoder comparison redone and updated.
If we could select a suitable test case, which many of us could get our hands on,.. I would think that others that have these Encoders would volunteer to encode a segment in a format that would be competitive and share the data with this forum. Then we could have a vote on which is the best for a given application.

I would like to volunteer VideoStudio 7.0 since that is what I have.
"Technology",...It's what keeps us all moving forward.

No. MPEG-2 support is only for 1 month. MPEG-1 is unlimited.
    If in doubt, Google it.
