I see that Mainconcept have nearly got their H264 encoder ready. The origional specs for H264 were claiming a 30% reduction in size for the same quality as H263.

    What is the internal differences?

Will we be seeing a H264 version from Divx or Xvid or Nero?

  2. Wait. I'm confused. H263 is an encoder engine.
DivX and XviD are avi codecs.
Nero is a burning application (with a completely different encoder in the associated apps).
Comparing Nero to Mainconcept (encoders) is like a Tonka truck vs. a Peterbuilt.

  5. mikesbytes,

Reboot really does appear to be confused. H.264 is the ITU-T specification for MPEG 4 compression. I don't know if Nero, Divx, and Xvid fully support the spec, but they all already have MPEG 4 encoding.

    [edit]

Sorry, forgot to mention that h.263 is an older spec for low resolution video -- typically used for web cam type video.
