i need a simple DV editor, simply to chop down the size of captured DV files that i have captured with my canopus, whats the best and EASIEST program to use,

I have several available because they come as bundled with hardware. I usually use Pinnacle Studio 8.12. Then I save back as a DV file and bring into TMPEGEnc for encoding, and then to TMPEGEnc DVD Author to author.

i cant get virtual dub to open my captured file, it says it cant locatate decompressor for format "DVSD" any one help me with this??? it also says it needs a VFW video for windows compatibel codec ,

You need a DV codec to open the file in Virtual Dub.

Have a look in the tools section under codec's.

As Beavis and mikesbytes said: Virtualdub. Try the Panasonic codec and VD will see the file.

There are plenty of programs to simply "chop down the size " that are very easy. They can split, join, and save captured video into separate files or combine files, as needed . And then can quickly save back to a DV file. (Pinnacle, Ulead, Cyberlink)

In my opinion, VirtualDub is not the easiest or the best for a newbie to do these things.

VirtualDub however is the easiest and the best for a newbie for post processing (applying filters, resizing and frame serving to an encoding program).
