I have downoaded an avi file and the picture is a rectagle in the middle of the screen which is approximatively half the surface and all around is black. The image quality is very good.
Is there a tool to fill all the screen.

    Thanks

  2. Make sure its not your player that add the black borders, open the avi in virtualdub to see whats really there. IF the borders need to be removed, in virtualdub you can click Video -> Filters, then Add the null transform filter, click OK and the cropping button in the Filters window is enabled. Click it, set the offsets so all borders are gone, then click Video -> Compression, selects the codec you want to reencode with. Then File -> Save as AVI.

Are you talking about while you watch it or do you wish to create a VCD/SVCD/DVD out of it ?

Windows media player can adjust to display the movie at 200% or at full screen if you only want to watch it zoomed. If you want to make it zoomed permanently, you would need to use something like TMPGEnc.
    If in doubt, Google it.

I did what you said with virtualdub but the filesize is huge, approximatively 18 gigs. How do I decrease this size.
    Thanks

Make sure you have a codec applied to it. It sounds like you have saved either the video or audio or both as uncompressed.
    If in doubt, Google it.

    Yes.

    Install ZoomPlayer.

    Open your .AVI in ZoomPlayer.

Press +/- on your numberpad to increase/decrease the... zoom.

ZoomPlayer was designed specifically as a media player for those who like to output to TV. With this in mind, it can compensate for overscan in a simple and elegant way.

I guess you skipped a step, default the video is set to no compression. Click Video -> Compression and set it to for ex divX. Or Xvid, it is better in many ppls opinion, i tend to agree. Its just that DivX is more common and "everyone" got a codec installed.
