I have the Pioneer 104 burner which can burn up to 2x. But can i use 4x or even 8x media on this burner? (burn at 2x)

WHOA ! STOP !
Yes, you can, BUT make sure you've got recent firmware. You can damage these recorders if you don't use recent firmware due to the optics being overdriven.
Check out the Pioneer website to make sure you wont do any lasting damage to this recorder (I had one, it's a cracking drive, and you don't want to bugger it up !).
