  1. Having trouble with 29fps videos now, it never ends.

I have a 29fps avi, and when i load it into TMPG to encode the video comes out fine with black borders of a few MM on each side, now when i use CCE to do the same thing there are huge borders several inches thick all around the picture, and this of course looks dreadful when played back.

is there someway to over come this using CCE?

    thanks.

any help would be appreciated, this is driving me insanse.
You could try using Goldwave's time-warp effect to stretch the audio length so it matches that of the video. Save as wav and convert to mp2 with FFMPEGgui, then mux with the video in TMPGEnc MPEG Tools.

I use WavWorks for this kind of audio conversion with great success. Fastest and simplest way there is. Has a 23.976 to 25 fps preset.

You probably have the DVD compliant option checked which makes it resize, in your case, to 720x480 by just adding black borders. In my opinion, you should never use the DVD compliant option for multiple reasons.

What is the resolution of your source avi? CCE doesn't allow resizing except with the abovementioned dvd compliant option, so you need to take care of that before loading it in CCE. The best way would be through avisynth but you could also frameserve through virtualdub or even TMPGenc for that matter, though this would be much slower.

  8. The AVI's i want to convert vary in size, the one im running tests on is 512x384, i unticked compliant and that done the trick, but now my authoring program wont accept it.

how would i get around this?

im the meanwhile im going to check out that avisynth.

It won't accept it because now the resolution is not dvd compliant. Like I said, you have to do the resizing by frameserving to CCE. You can get a list of dvd compliant resolutions by clicking on the What IS DVD link to your left. You generally don't want to increase resolution if you can help it so with that 512x384 avi you would resize to either 352x480 or 352x240...neither of which are preferable, but there's no helping it with such an odd source as this.
