I think this is a common phenomena and I'm trying to understand it.
It seems that just about every MPEG1/2 video on my computer gets way out sync if I skip ahead to a different part of it. Also, some files are just out of sync if opened and let played normally. I also have experienced this to a lesser degree with WMVs and MPEG4s.
When I burn these "out of sync" videos to a DVD and play them they are always IN sync. Why is this? What is it about playback on a PC that makes videos go out of sync, you would think that the PC would allow for greater control and proper playback.
I use Win 2000 with various media players such as MPC, Zoom, Microsoft player, VLC, Divx player, etc

I've seen that too. In my case, pausing the playback for a few seconds brought the sync back in. Maybe a resource issue on the PC? Maybe it's a shared IRQ on the sound card.
