  1. Have been successfully burning on this setup for a month. A few days ago, a file I was burning to a DVD+R --the burn hung up (not windows, just the burning/software). I rebooted, tried again; no go, tried burning different files with different software (Roxio vs Nero)--still hangs up. Is this a hardware issue? Does this happen often with DVD hardware? Why would my burn get hung up after about 800 MB or whatever 16% would be?

Try uninstalling and reinstalling the burning software. Make sure to reboot the machine after each.

  7. Solved: POWER SUPPLY

I over taxed it this weekend and never considered that as a possible cause.

    Solved the problem.

  8. Take that back----was too optimistic. It still does the exact thing.

Does anyone know if Alcohol could be the problem? I recently installed that....does that mess with any key core files?

  9. I had a similar problem with my NEC 1300a using Nero. I eventually found out that somehow, something had gone wrong with my SCSI/ATAPI settings. The cure for this was to simply remove the DVD writer from the computer, power the computer back up until it loads the desktop, power off, reinstall the DVD writer. This reconfigured the SCSI/ATAPI settings and it worked fine thereafter.

Might be that this is what you need to do.

  10. try uninstalling your writer from system & restarting the computer. You could also use Restore & restore to a point it worked right. Im really not sure as I don't know what your system specs are but those two things work for windows. ALso uninstall any writer software & just use one at first & work from there.
