  1. Hi,

I'm using DVD2SVCD to covert an AVI to an MPEG so I can burn onto a DVD as I have season 1 of The O.C. but most are MPEG but 2 are AVI files and I can't make a DVD with them using SVCD2DVD.

So while I am trying to convert the AVI's to MPEG using DVD2SVCD it fails when it gets to CCE saying the following " Frame size 940x56 is not supported. Supported from size is up to 720x576"

    Please help,
    Rezarf.

  2. Something is wrong.
    This is 940x56:

Open the avi's in virtualdub and see what's really going on.

  4. First, it will show if that's the real aspect or not.
Second it will show if it's actually a movie, and not some other crap disguised.
Third, if you select File, File Information, it should tell you bitrate, fps, aspect, and a whole bunch of other things that may give you a hint to what it really is/should be.
If you're still lost, open it in GSpot as well.
If none of that makes any sense, post the results here, and someone will help you sort it out

  5. OK,

Opened the file in question into Vitualdub and got the following error:

Couldn't locate decompressor for format "XviD" (unknown)

Virtualdub requries a Video for Windows (VFW) compatible codec to decompress video. DirectShow codecs, such as those used by Windows Media Player, are not sutible.

It won't play in WMP but works fine when I use my VLC Player.

  8. Hi,

Finally got my .avi file to convert I had to use DVD2SVCD and chose Tmpgenc to convert as CCE converted it to a video clip mpv or mp2 or something.

So it converted the .avi file into a .bin & .cue file and I used VCDgear to convert into a MPEG.

But I was trying to put all my MPEG file onto a DVD using Tmpgenc DVD author but all your file have to be the same i.e. MPEG2 or MPEG1.

So I need to know if there is an easy way to convert an MPEG1 into a MPEG2 and vice versa.

    Cheers for all the help

This is not true. For sure you can mix MPEG1 & MPEG2 on the same disc with different titles in TDA. You just can't mix PAL & NTSC on the same disc.

  10. DVD2SVCD is just a complicated GUI wrapped around a few tools, which produces an mpeg. You then decided to make bin/cue instead.
Now you have to change it into something to work with, so you use VCDGear to produce the mpeg, which DVD2SVCD had already done.
TMPGEnc would have produced the mp2 and m2v files by itself. One is audio, the other video, separated. Your authoring program should be able to load those, then create your menus/chapters, author and burn.
You've managed to make a fairly simple operation totally confusing and take 3 times longer than needed.
If you look at the guides, there are several good ones on making an mpeg from an avi (XviD), and then more guides on making a DVD in TMPGEnc Author, and you could have saved a few steps and probably 4 or 5 hours.
You already have two great tools, both from TMPGEnc.
First, let TMPGEnc produce the m2v and mp2 files, using it's Wizard in DVD mode.
Load those two files into TMPGEnc DVD Author, add your chapters and menus.
    Burn.
You will find that all-in-one things like DVD2SVCD get tiresome after a while, and you'll want more control over the process.
You will also find that making a successful dvd burn does NOT take 15 complicated steps and 5 different programs.
I'm glad you finally got your first one sorted though, and congrats for plugging away at it until you got a finished dvd! I know lots of people that would have given up long ago.

Edit: If you really must make all your files mpeg2, open TMPGenc, close the wizard, click File, MPEG Tools.
On the Simple Multiplex tab, open your mpeg, choose mpeg2 from the dropdown box, and remux it. Only takes a few minutes each.

  11. Hi,

I now have this converting AVI's to MPEG's sorted, instead of using TMPGenc to convert i use CCE Basic, it cost me $58 but money worth spent, can convert a AVI file in around 30mins compared to the 4Hrs or so it took before.

    Cheers
    for all the help guys,
