  1. Hello,

Please please please can some one tell me the best setting to capture from the composite on this card. By best settings i mean goodquality picture and sound with an acceptable file size.

I have downloaded alot of tv stuff from newsgroups etc and have noticed that a 50 mins episode of HDTV CSI is around 400 mb.

I have tried all the settings on my capturecard and experimented with the software compression settings but can't get anything anywhere near as good for the file size

please help - i am tearing my hair out

    thanks

I have the same capture card myself. I'm just guessing here, but it sounds like the newsgroup file of CSI is probably in DivX format. You might be able to capture directly to DivX if your PC is powerful enough. Otherwise, you may best be suited to capture to MPEG2 then convert to DivX with a tool like Dr. DivX (at least that's what I have anyway).

For the record, I've been capturing TV at 640 X 480 MPEG2 around 3500 kb/s with Power VCR II. Seems like I end up with files around 1.6 Gb per hour of recording. The video quality looks great to me. That's probably a larger file than what you're looking for, but you can always downsize by doing the DivX conversion (or just capturing directly to it).

I bought my card some time ago and was using with a amd 1.2 system that just could not give decent results period. Bought new intel 2.5 system that gave good results but when using lover resolutions the audio went to 44100 instead of 48 for dvd compliant to author/burn, MF2 handled it ok and did not take toooo long.

Bought new card for daughter as had just bought her new sys also. Her card came with ver 3.6 pvr so I installed that on my sys. The captures are great, but the resoultion choises are odd, I think.

the old ver pvr had 352x480 which was compliant to burn. The new ver dosen't offer this.

I was using a custon setting. stated with dvd ntsc and changed to 320x240 at 2,3 and 4mb/s. Caps look great but MF2 wont hanmdle without 10 hr re-encode
