You capture the video as DVAVI, edit out the bad bits, then convert it to MPEG2 format, then use an authoring program to create a DVD,

Thats the short version of the task.

Not wishing to sound unhelpful, but I would be here all night writing out how to do it, which would be a waste of my time as at the top left hand side you can find a "HOW TO" section which details how to do it and what programs there are to do it with.

I use either Premiere Pro or Vegas 4 for editing and encoding and either Encore, DVDA or DVDLab to author.

You can use Nero 6 and Nero Vision express to do the whole lot for you (I have never used this option).

So read up on the How tos and you will get a result.

  3. As long as you burnt a compliant DVD, your issue will be with the DVD player/s you are trying to view it on. Try a newer DVD player that says it will play DVDr /rw

It sounds like either you burned the DVD as a DVD-ROM instead of DVD-Video, or you burned the MPEG to the DVD instead of authoring it first. Or you might have burned the unauthored MPEG as a DVD-ROM.

A PC will play a DVD-ROM where a player won't. A PC will also play an MPG file and a player won't (usually).

Did you author it?(authored files are in VIDEO_TS folder and have the extensions of ".VOB" ".IFO" and ".BUP").

We have to determine if you're authoring them or burning the raw MPEG.

What are the file extensions right before you try to burn them? Are they ".MPG" or are they in the "VIDEO_TS" folder and named "filename.VOB"?

List these files so we can tell if you have what you need to burn a DVD.

    There are two basic possibilities:
    1) You burned a good DVD but happen to have a DVD player that doesn't recognize it. You need to check your DVD player in the DVD Player list over to the left there and see if it is supposed to play the type of DVD you are making. Even then there are sometimes compatability issues.

    OR

    2) You didn't burn a proper DVD at all. As pointed out above sometimes people get the video onto a DVD but not in the right format and folder structure. When people say it plays on their computer they mean they click on the video file and it plays. That's not the same as playing a DVD with menus.

  10. There are plenty of programs that you can do all that in, but most of us use different programs for each step.

    Here are the basis steps.

    1. capture the DV video.
    2. edit the DV video.
    3. encode the DV video to MPEG2
    4. author the MPEG2 video
    5. burn the dvd disk.

That's 5 easy steps to disk creation, but I recommend you test the product of each step before proceeding to the next step. That will save you a lot of time in the end....

If I were to only have access to one application for all of that I would choose Ulead VideoStudio 8, but that is only my preference. You will need to choose the program(s) that you like to use. And, you're going to need to read some help files and guides. The help files will be located in the program you decide to use, and the guides are located here on the left hand column <-------- Where it says "How To". That is where we all started.

    Best of luck.

    Hi

I'm a newbie so be patient with me.

My limited (very limited) experience is that you have captured an avi file. You will need to convert it to Mpeg2 (TMPGENC will do this for you). Once converted you then need to author with a suitable dvd authoring program to create video_TS folders. I use TMPGENC DVD Author. Then burn with whatever software program your pc came with. Plenty of guides on this site on how to do this. It is fairly straightforward-if i can do it-anyone can.

    Cheers
