Agreed. I like 'em too, but I don't want it popping up in stuff I don't want it in. There's a time and a place for it, and half-time during the super bowl with 80 million kids under 13 watching it isn't the time or the place.

If I want porn, I'll download it. If I want my kid to see R-rated movies, that's my right as a parent. It's also my right to keep him from seeing it, if that's what I want as his parent.The parent is the only one who has that right or that task. But don't even try slipping that shit in my kids schoolbooks, or my kids movies, or my kids songs. Kids should have what they see and read censored. That's called parenting. Not doing it is called being lazy.

Large companies create products that most people can do without. In order do move the merchandise, they hire lobbyists, and create ad campaigns to create a panic. And thus create a problem to be solved by their "already invented" solution.

Nothing motivates like fear, especially where people's kids are concerned!

I wrote two science fiction novellas in college. They had violence and some foul language. I never had them published. But, if I had, and somebody had reprinted them in a 'clean' form without my permission, I'd have had their heads on a platter.

For the love of GOD...who cares.....you watch what you want, how you want, I'll watch what I want to watch and everyone else will do the same.

Here is something that I have witnessed first hand for all of you "not my kid" types....being in the profession that I am in, I get the opportunity to meet parents, talk to kids, kids tell me about their parents, the rules, etc, etc. You can try to protect them, you can shield them, you can shelter them...but most of the time, the kids with parents that are that protective and overbearing are the kids that are the ones up to no good most of the time. Not all mind you but most of the time. Kind of a "Preacher's daughter" syndrome.

Before you start flaming me, let me say go for it, you don't have to believe me, I see it everyday and have for the last 8-12 years, parents who live in that little world of false security really do not understand the child mind and more importantly will really not understand the adolesent mind. You would be better off to take some psychology classes than to censor what your child is watching...because he is going to see it, you are not with him 24/7 and he will see and hear things you don't want him to, you better focus more how you are going to teach him to deal and react to those things.

I remember that when growing up, if you fell off your bike doing something stupid and bashed your head on the sidewalk, that it hurt like hell.

I learned this simple equation;

I learned quite a few things by trial and error. If i hadn't learned at bycycle age i probably would've learned at auto age, and what a mess that would have been. Nowadays kids have to wear a helmet, shielding them from pain and valuable knowledge.

You don't have to protect kids, you just have to teach them the difference between right and wrong. Your own definition of what right and wrong is, and society's definition of what right and wrong is. That way, they'll be able to deal with the real world without resorting to:

1) Shooting up their high school,
2) Suing everybody for every little thing that goes wrong in their life,
3) Blaming society for the mistakes they make.

I was taught what my parents thought was right and wrong. I was also taught what society thinks is right and wrong. The two are pretty much exclusive of each other, but I manage just fine.

What I find supremely ironic is that the film I mostly learned about the consequences of violence from is RoboCop. In my honest opinion, if you showed that to nine year olds in school, there'd be a lot less school shootings when they turn fifteen or so.

Actually, the purpose of law is to maintain some equilibrium that allows a citizen to do what they please in their own backyard, so long as nobody else's backyard is harmed in the process. Or at least that's how it would work in an ideal society. Unfortunately, there are some who see it as a tool to maintain a monopoly or a status quo (*cough* MPAA *cough*).

The so-called children's programming available on DVD-Video here just makes me sick, honestly.

There has been a lot written about the subject of what happens when too many laws are in place. Just look at the English language for a good example of too many laws/rules in action. But seriously, the fact that the powers that be feel the old laws regarding copyright and what happens when you break it are inadequate tells me that they worked. It's as if the MPAA has thrown up the white flag to the mass piracy industry that is rampant in South-East Asia and decided to go after the casual copyer.
