Last time i checked breast feeding was the norm. kids know what tits are.as far as censorship goes, you have janet jackson to thank for that.
as for protecting your kids with an edited movie, wrong. just because explicit scenes are removed does not alter the story or message of a film. if you take a film like...... the crow, and cut out all the violence, you have a guy dressed in black who makes people "disappear" in dark streets, and is friends with a little girl. woah! THAT'S a healthy thing to show your young kids!?
using the "protecting my kids" excuse is a cover for one thing only, lazy parenting.

yes but it was in poor taste for the super bowl in front of millions of people on national tv. They need to do that kind of stuff in the bedroom. I wanted to watch football, not watch him take her clothes off -
it's pretty much common sense that the message might still be there. i would still pay attention to what my child watches. even a "kids" movie like shrek has a couple of foul words but overall the story was for kids.
-
Whatever - turn on the censorama device so that you dont get to watch the titties. You can have your own little echo chamber where no ideas can possibly challenge your world view.
-
this is not a superiority contest. I like naked women as much as the next person. I was just wanting to watch football. Anyway, it was that incident that had the fcc in an uproar. After that, howard stern got removed from the radiowaves.

But don't even try slipping that shit in my kids schoolbooks, or my kids movies, or my kids songs. Kids should have what they see and read censored. That's called parenting. Not doing it is called being lazy.
Censoring adults on the other hand, that's called fascism.

no. he was removed because the radio station got fined. The fcc considered him vulgar. I agree capmaster. There is a time and place.

howard stern is still on the air. only the markets owned by clear channel that broadcast stern were taken off the air. 6 total i believe.
-
well, where I live, clear channel owns a heck of alot of radio stations. He is off the air here.

Howard Stern was actually fired because he hasn't changed his material since 1989.
There are much better examples of persecution than that idiot! Funny, the least deserving always seem to be the loudest voices. Western culture is full of double standards. Its a perfectly, socially acceptable way of conducting oneself.
Its not the liberals or the conservatives.......its both! Everybody is perfectly happy to tax, or regulate somebody elses bad behavior, but never their own.
Quote from George Carlin (not word for word)
-----------------------------------------
Have you ever noticed that when your driving down the highway, that everyone driving slower than you is an *******, but everyone driving faster than you is just F#$@ING NUTS!...........and it doesn't matter if your speeding yourself.
----------------------------------------- -
i cant believe that someone would actually be a complete fucknut and buy shit like this from these companies.
if you dont want people to be offended by language or scenes in a movie, then take up cross stitching ffs.
if theres a bit in it that a kid shouldnt see,put them to there bed,or dont put it on at all. -
Aren't large companies the original source for the publics stupid ideas.
Large companies create products that most people can do without. In order do move the merchandise, they hire lobbyists, and create ad campaigns to create a panic. And thus create a problem to be solved by their "already invented" solution.
Nothing motivates like fear, especially where people's kids are concerned! -

I've been gone a while....So what did I miss??
You guys are still hashing this out?
For the love of GOD...who cares.....you watch what you want, how you want, I'll watch what I want to watch and everyone else will do the same.
Here is something that I have witnessed first hand for all of you "not my kid" types....being in the profession that I am in, I get the opportunity to meet parents, talk to kids, kids tell me about their parents, the rules, etc, etc. You can try to protect them, you can shield them, you can shelter them...but most of the time, the kids with parents that are that protective and overbearing are the kids that are the ones up to no good most of the time. Not all mind you but most of the time. Kind of a "Preacher's daughter" syndrome.
Before you start flaming me, let me say go for it, you don't have to believe me, I see it everyday and have for the last 8-12 years, parents who live in that little world of false security really do not understand the child mind and more importantly will really not understand the adolesent mind. You would be better off to take some psychology classes than to censor what your child is watching...because he is going to see it, you are not with him 24/7 and he will see and hear things you don't want him to, you better focus more how you are going to teach him to deal and react to those things. -
I remember that when growing up, if you fell off your bike doing something stupid and bashed your head on the sidewalk, that it hurt like hell.
I learned this simple equation;
Stupidity + Free Time = Pain
I learned quite a few things by trial and error. If i hadn't learned at bycycle age i probably would've learned at auto age, and what a mess that would have been. Nowadays kids have to wear a helmet, shielding them from pain and valuable knowledge.
If you protect your kids too much, you'll make them naive and stupid! -

I was taught what my parents thought was right and wrong. I was also taught what society thinks is right and wrong. The two are pretty much exclusive of each other, but I manage just fine. -
Amen.
No Direct Memory Access in kids brains:
You can't really put ideas in anyones head, all you can do it present the truth (subjective), but they have to put the pieces together.
Everyone teaches themselves. -
What I find supremely ironic is that the film I mostly learned about the consequences of violence from is RoboCop. In my honest opinion, if you showed that to nine year olds in school, there'd be a lot less school shootings when they turn fifteen or so.
It's a pity that America is such a straight-jacket society that nobody will give the idea a try. -
Law is meant to protect the interests. Your "interest" is too small to deserve protection.
-
i completely understand that. with my child i want to teach him a certain way. but at the same time i want him to understand how the world works, and teach him how to deal with those things. i don't plan on shielding him. that would work against everything i'm trying to do when he gets older.
-
Actually, the purpose of law is to maintain some equilibrium that allows a citizen to do what they please in their own backyard, so long as nobody else's backyard is harmed in the process. Or at least that's how it would work in an ideal society. Unfortunately, there are some who see it as a tool to maintain a monopoly or a status quo (*cough* MPAA *cough*).
The so-called children's programming available on DVD-Video here just makes me sick, honestly. -
that is why we are losing our freedoms. Everyday stupid laws are being passed that make your average law-abiding citizen a criminal.
-
There has been a lot written about the subject of what happens when too many laws are in place. Just look at the English language for a good example of too many laws/rules in action.
But seriously, the fact that the powers that be feel the old laws regarding copyright and what happens when you break it are inadequate tells me that they worked. It's as if the MPAA has thrown up the white flag to the mass piracy industry that is rampant in South-East Asia and decided to go after the casual copyer.
