    Hi all,

    I instaled the Canopus DV Codec, hoping to use it when exporting movie from Premiere Pro - and maybe choosing it at the "project settings" tab;

But I've realized it's not available at the export movie window.......the "Compressor" tab lists just two options :

    DV(NTSC)
    DV(PAL)

With no reference to the codec manufacturer....

Am I confused ? Shouldn't I be able to choose the Canopus codec ? Or actually whatever DV Codec I should have installed ?

    Thanks for any help,

    Zetti

That codec is for play back only. It's not for encoding.

Thanks, so I assume PP keeps locked to its "own" codec for rendering.....

No. You can install various DV codecs to render with. Just that particular Canopus codec is only for play back purposes.

I run Premiere Pro and have encoded with various codecs from Mainconcept, Matrox, Panasonic etc.

Thanks, I've taken a look at the Codecs section, most codecs - like the Mainconcept you've mentioned and Canopus - says just "play and import DV files".....so I assume all these codecs are just for watching DV files...

Please, help me, where is, for example, the link to download the Mainconcept codec that should allow RENDERING ?

    Thanks,

Do you mean that MC DVCodec 2.4.4 should appear as an option when rendering files in PP ?

It's NOT the same functionality as the Canopus one then ?

    Thanks,

That Canopus codec will decode only. There are other Canopus codecs that will encode and decode, but they come with their software, such as Procoder.

That Mainconcept will encode and decode, and will show up in Premiere Pro just fine. You can download the demo and try it out. It will place a watermark in the upper left hand corner until you either buy it, or uninstall it.

Thanks, should I try any of these or keep using the DV codec that is built-into PP ?
How can I know what codec PP uses bundled-in ?

What's the manufacturer of the DV Codec in PP ? Is it MS ?

Do you have any special preference ?

    Thank you !

The Microsoft DV AVI codec in PP is Mainconcept. The Microsoft AVI codec is MS. So is it worth to buy it if you already have it? That's up to you. Try the demo.

After trying various codecs, I like the Canopus when using the Procoder Express plugin, and just rendering uncompressed (compressor = none).
