  1. I just bought the pioneer a07xla and am trying to burn stuff however have not had a successful burn yet. I can burn cds and work ok, but can't seem to burn dvds. I've tried Nero, dvdxcopy, and dvd shrink and nero and xcopy says it burns the dvd fine, but when I try to explore the dvd on the comp it gives me an error, or when I try to play it on either the cop or dvdplayer, it does not work. What could be my problem? Is it the burner, the software, or my computer? Help!! I've wasted about 10-15 dvdrs already.

    1. check for firmware upgrade.
    2. check for burner program upgrade
    3. check for what booktype you are burning.
    4. if none of these work, buy more blanks

  3. I've updated pioneers firmware to 1.12 and still cannont burn any dvds' it burns fine but when I play the dvd on player or on the comp it says error. I want to apply nil's 1.13 firmwre to it but not sure if my drive is the same as the patch is for. My drive is the pioneer a07xla, but under hardware manager it sees it as the dvr 107d, which i think is the same as nils upgrade. any other suggestions? I 've burnt 15-20 coasters and am weary to burn any more.

  4. When you say you've burnt about 15 discs already, are we talking say 15 discs from a spindle of 25 ?

If so, it could be the target device doesn't like your choice of media - some standalones in particular can be right buggers when it comes to finding recordable media they will play.

Unless you have tried other manufacturers (note I didn't say BRAND - if you don't know the difference you need to brush up on media codes and how to find them to make sure you don't buy the same discs again) to prove it's not the media / player cross platform compatibilty issue, then you should look at this first. You might find the discs are OK for data and not video, in which case you're wasting discs for the sake of it.

  5. Its not the media, I've used the same media on my other burner and its fine, it could be that this burner doens't like this type of media. I don't know wat else to do. I called pioneer they said for mte to turn off dma under drive properties and in the bios which i did and still the same problem.they also told me to update the latest IDE controllers and BUS mastering drivers, for the motherboard, but i don't know which drivers I need and where to get them. Any other suggs? I'm getting tired of messing with this and wasted dvd'rs i can't figure out wats wrong with this writer.

Are you using the latest version of DVD SHRINK? If you are try a older version of DVD SHRINK. Some people are having problems using the latest version. Version 3.0 beta5 is a the one I use & have no problems.

I agree with gitreel to try another brand of media. What brand of dvd media are you using? check out the PIONEER forum at cdfreaks.com for more info. http://club.cdfreaks.com/forumdisplay.php?s=&daysprune=-1&f=87
