I have some music videos in vob format with the sound in LPCM format.
I'd like to replace the LPCM Wave file to an AC3 file (stereo) to save space (I don't have a dvd burner so I can spare a few MB).
So what's the best AC3 bitrate for converting a LPCM Wave to an AC3 (Dolby Stereo) with besweet ?
Thanks.

In my opinion anything higher than 256kbps for 2.0 AC-3 encoding is a waste.
In fact most commercial DVD releases use 192kbps for 2.0 AC-3 audio.
However most stand alone DVD recorders use 256kbps for 2.0 AC-3 audio.
I use 256kbps myself.
The only time you would have to use a higher bitrate than 256kbps is if you had something more than a 2.0 source ... such as 5.1 AC-3 which should use 448kbps for best quality.

i use 192 with high quality non music sources
recently i've been using 448 just b/c the music videos i am doing are around 8,000 bitrate, 50 minutes long and have enough space to mux in a 448k file.
i don't like having DVD less than 3.5GBs because of compatibility problems with some player -
I've tried several bitrates and it's great but i've also another question,
Which is the best "endians": intel or motorola.
I tried to make a dvd compliant ac3 file. My standalone is a Pioneer DV-454 -
motorola is correct for DVD's

I have an older model Pioneer DVD player and yes I can confirm that they do not like 2.0 AC-3 audio created with BeSweet (though they seem find with 5.1 AC-3 audio created with BeSweet).
I stopped using BeSweet for AC-3 encoding a long time ago but I understand that the newest version of BeSweet (as well as ffmpeg) no longer have this "bug" anymore.
Also this problem affected more than Pioneer models I know someone with an older model Samsung that also has (had?) this problem.

At any rate... I do all of my ac3 encodes using QuEnc in using "No Video" under the mux profile options.where bananas go to church...
