Nero CD detect problem

I have recently reformatted and re-installed Nero 5.5, it cannot find my CD Writer, I no longer have the original disk as I had simply backed up install files for all the software I'd had installed before. I tried the ASPI fix suggested on the site but it didn't work. They also suggest burning a testcd image so Nero can auto-detect, hard to burn or read this image if Nero already cannot find the drive (they didn't think of this? lol) Anyone have any ideas out there? I certainly don't remember having to do this before.

is it the full version of nero, or a demo/cracked version? if it's not the full version and it's not the version that came with your drive, it won't work.

It is the exact same version and writer that worked fine before I reformatted, the only difference is, when I bought the burner, Nero was already installed, in this case it's reversed, the writer is already there and now I'm reinstalling Nero

buy another burner, they are so cheap nowadays, it is not worth the hassle.
