  2. If the decrease in speed is on stuff you've just burnt with your hacked firmware, it's because the drive is having to do more error correction on your crappy burns...

Why are people such speed freaks these days ? I'm happy to write at 1x if it means the burn is reliable...

  7. I always suggest buying a DVD-ROM drive... saves wear and tear on the more expensive recorder, too.

I picked up a Lite-On for about £25 that blows every recorder I've ever seen out of the water when it comes to ripping. Didn't have to do any firmware upgrades (and as such, invalidate my warranty) in order to achieve it either.

  8. just because a car has 140mph on the dash board, doesnt mean itll go that fast all the time..does it.
    12xspeed is the fastest rip.
    2xspeed-maybe 6or 7 speed is about the normal from a dvd-r+r.
for an original movie,on ,say,a full dual layer disc,it might reach 12 speed,or higher.
maybe only get ot 10..it all depends.

as for burn speed dropping...thats disc dependant too.
some dvd-+rs will burn at 8speed fine, some only at 4.
