  2. I can only guess what the problem is but i may be able to narrow it down.

This is the third post i've seen in two weeks that has a problem burning with Nero installed and PXHELP20.SYS (Prassi/Veritas driver for win 2K)

I remember someone suggesting that you turn off the Windows CD burning support but i don't remember the result.

I've just been replying to a post in which I related to the inbuilt burning engine in XP today. As I say in that thread, I had a lot of problems with XP when I first installed it and tried burning CDs. It may be worth checking to see if XP isn't trying to be the 'do-everything' OS, just so this possibility can be eliminated.

  4. Well then you will have to tell him which service to shut off because i'm on Win2k.

I know the process starts with "services.msc", but there is no such service in Win2k. (Thank God!)

CD/DVD burning in XP is not enabled/disabled through services but through right-clicking on each write-capable drive's property sheet. There is the IMAPI service but that appears to be fine with burning apps I use.

Yes and no. My IMAPI service is set to manual and it runs when I access some form of burning software's capabilities that will start it. Even if I run Nero to check what medium is in a drive. I do, however, have the inbuilt burning switched off for both my writers.

The service has not made any difference to my CD/ DVD burning successes, or lack of. In fact the only coasters I've had (ever) were due to my old Yamaha taking a hissy fit (when SCSI devices go bad... ) and more recently with a buggy version of Nero.

So I wouldn't recommend that you must disable or set to manual the IMAPI service - just disable the burning from the drive property sheet.

  7. Bad Yamaha SCSI drive? That can't be too common! Both of mine are still working great.

Well i'll stick with Win2k, and lyvandu will just have to experiment.

Well I am talking about a drive I bought in September '99 that I pretty much must have worn out judging by the stacks of CDs I don't have room for anymore.

It wrote at blistering speeds up to 6x I'll have you know. Ah, those were the days...

  10. SCSI command abort is an issue that affects those that meet the following criteria:

    1. You use Windows XP
    2. Your burner is external
    3. Your connection is USB 2.0

Solution? Hook up your burner to USB 1.1

It is rumored that Microsoft will have fixed this with the upcoming release of SP2.
    Dan~~
