  1. Found it. Apparently, the original SVHS tape was cobalt-coated ferric-oxide tape similar to regular VHS, with finer magnetic particles and increased coercivity and greater high frequency output. But still compatible with regular VHS.

    This page is also interesting. It seems the original website went dark.

    According to a former BASF employee in one of vintage AV forums there were variations of chrome tapes for both VHS and S-VHS, hence different tape colors, The dark black could be the ones.
