I have read where the Plextor PX-708, which I have, can burn some 4x media at 8x. Has anyone been able to do this? I've been goofing around with some 2x TDK and Sony and it's just too slow.

Can anyone possibly provide a link to some top quality 4x, or if you know of any 4x that will burn at 8x, I'd be very grateful.

    Thanks for you help!!

  2. If you're planning at writing to a disc at twice its rated speed, you might want to try a small quantity before buying in bulk. Writing to a disc is only half the story - the few minutes you save writing to a coaster is wasted (in other words, make sure that your target device can read your choice of media, it isn't just what's good for your writer that counts).

I have the Plextor 708A and have burned at 8X with Verbatim 1 - 4X rated +R's (Verbatim is one of the recommended brands on the Plextor support site). I also understand that TDX will also burn at 8X. I will be trying the TDK in the next week but for now all I can vouch for are the Verbatim. If the Verbatim's don't say 1X - 4X on the label they are 2.4X so don't get those.

IMATION (RICOH) DVD+R 4x discs also can be burned @8x using the Plextor 708A. At the moment there is no 4x DVD-R media that can be burned @8x for the Plextor 708A. Only DVD+R can be burned @8x using certain brands of media.

  6. I've had really good luck with the Hewlett Packard 4x dvd's from staples. The come in slim cases in a box of ten that, when on sale, costs about $11 and change. The burn at 8x automatically on my drive.

I bought 4x memorex dvd's from Amazon but they burn at 4X.

I have Memorex +R 4x and they burn at 8x with no one coaster. Also no problems with Maxell +R 4x at 8x burning. But I thing that every media with "Available write descriptor: 8x" shown in DVDInfoPro will burn without prolems at 8x.

Choose first by media code: RICOHJP01 or MAXELL... and after select your media by price - look at some discounts etc.
