hiya ppl... i have an avi that has a frame rate of 20... my tv will only display PAL which is 25... when changing the frame rate and audio to 25fps, the audio sounds like a chipmunk as it is too high a jump in frame rate... when i have converted ntsc to pal it hasnt really been noticeable...

so is there any way around this? how can i get this avi with a frame rate of 20 to change to 25 without it mucking it up?

  2. This may not be the solution you'd like, but if you don't use the wizard in TMPGEnc, load a PAL template and the file "unlock.mcf" then you can adjust the framerate of the MPEG output to be 20fps too. I have done this with a 15fps video file from my digital camera before, and it worked very well.

    Good luck,

hey... so i load the pal template.... and then where is this unlock file? and what exactly do i do with it? do you know of any guides for doing this?

  4. I couldn't see a guide that was obvious, so I can just tell you straight how to get to the unlock file so you can adjust framerate:

    - Open TMPGEnc and close the wizard down
    - Click on the "Browse" buttons and select your input video and audio
    - Open the correct template for your output by pressing the "Load" button
    - Click the "Load" button again, go into the folder "Extra" and load "unlock.mcf"
    - Now, all the settings are unlocked. Change your framerate to match the input file, and set it up to how you like it. If you look for virtually any TMPGEnc guide, you can find explanations of the settings. Alteratively, you can look here.

This will output a non-standard MPEG file at the framerate that your input file was at, and it should play fine.

    Hope this helps,

    alright... cool... cheers heaps...

so i just need to change the frame rate setting and thats it? nothing else?

question: i have been changing some files that were ntsc to pal by converting video and audio file etc using things like besweet... does this mean that i could just leave it as 23.976 fps and then do like you are saying? or is there draw backs on doing the unlock method??

  6. Damned good question! I don't know the answer, but I'll look into it. I'm sure if there were any advantage in doing it that way then it'd be well known on this site so I'd advise you to carry on with your normal method. This is just the method I employ to get my camera footage to DVD/SVCD.

you only need to convert if your player+tv don't play both
Most (but not all) UK dvd players & tv's play both.
