I have a divx mpeg with the quicktime logo on the file it is 103Mb when I try to view it as quicktime it only shows about 20 secs of video, if I view it on a vlc player it plays for about 4 mins but then freezes the picture, I have downloaded an mplayer and if I try and open it with mplayer nothing happens, no screen just a title box has anyone got any ideas to help please?

you need to find out what type of file it is first.

divx mpeg ?? do you mean a mpeg4 file?

generally divx files have the extension '.avi' or '.mov',
you can also have a .mov file whose audio and video are multiplexed mpeg1.

try opening the file in quicktime and press 'command i' to get info on the fie.
    post the info here.

there are instructions when you are posting on how to upload an image. It is just below where you enter the post.
maybe if you are having trouble you can just type in the info.

if you change the end extension to .avi,
and try to play what does it do?

Also in QT, with the file open,
    select Window--Show Movie Info
and post back THAT information here.

I tried following the instructions to post a jpeg, I spent 1/2 hour farting around and got nowhere, anyway I edited the file to a .avi and couldnt open it with anything, I then removed divx and just left mpeg and now it works fine with the vlc player so thanks again, I have learnt something else new.
