i have a question,

I follow the guide exactly but when i burn it on a DVD-RW and use it with a stand-alone it starts from chapter 25 instead of 1 so i can only see the half of this movie. the movie is NTSC but i use Ifoedit 0.95 because rejig crashes all the time when i try to multiplex
Can you plz help me

By the way Great Guide only the programs have to many bugs

Reauthoring with ifoedit probably doesn't create the same amount of cells as the original movies has, thus fooking up your chapter points. If Rejig crashes at the subtitle muxing, try rejig 0.5d instead of rejig 0.5e, worked for me, also make sure you get vts sectors at the end of the whole process.
Maybe you should check your VIDEO_TS.IFO to see what precommand is entered at your first play pgc?!

NOW I JUST NEED TO FIGURE OUT THESE G*DD*MN DISAPPEARING SUBS.

Now Im Ad Just as I Thought that I finally Had Found out to make My perfect DVD's With My own lanquage-subtitle I'm running In troubles like I was a newbe , The only Movie I Had Almost no problem with was Secret Window where it' only the suptirles who dissapears onece, but Now I Have tried with Monster, paycheck, Spartan and they al can't bed remuxed in Rejig, Rejig going down after it's almost finnish to multioplexing the movie, bad bad bad, I tryed to use ifoedit even I know it dossent work on NTSC movies, I almost thought I was lucky with spartan, but after ca 1 hour the sound dosent match the subtitle and picture, what shal I do to make this work 100 % ok

NEOTRIN, You can't do anything about the disappearing subs. Just push the subtitle button on your Standalone remote again...and reload the sub. It will happen 1 or mabey 2-3 times. I don't know what the #@$# is wrong.

Everybody please have some patience 'cause I'm working on a new and very simple guide. No more Rejig (btw, Rejig project was stoped), no more IfoEdit, no more Srt2Sup, no more SupRemap, no more DVD Shrink (wich i love so much ). But I will not posted anywhere. I will put it on my home page. So you can printed and work with it.

I read all the posts from here, and most are problems that I didn't have when I made my DVD's ...and I am still adding subtitles to DVD's with this guide.

Updated list of DVD's I made :
1. Vertical Limit (source DVD original, PAL)
2. City of Angels (source DVD not original, PAL) - (the original DVD didn't have any menus).
3. Gone in 60 Seconds (source DVD not original, NTSC)

All the DVD's above are working perfect. NO ERRORS.

So let's wait for the new guide Hope will be errorless

Just two questions (I'd like to try this guide), does the demultiplex part (to give the m2v, ac3,...) split the files of the demuxed file is a big one because my 2 HDD are in FAT32 and so a bigger file than 4 GB is not working ?

Is it possible to add subtitles (lyrics for music video clips) from a dvd authored by tmpg dvd author (it seems that the guide is for replacing an existing subtitle by another one) ?

Has the issue of adding subs to a movie that never had any subs to begin with been addressed?

My friend made his own fan film in Spanish which has already been authored to DVD. We made some English subs for it. When we followed the guide, the result had no subtitle stream! (what the heck happened the the sup file we muxed?) Anyone in the same boat?

panoplos, movie as to be on DVD-ROM...even is this is a virtual one so if the movie is on HDD make it ISO and mount it with Daemon Tools or other Emulation Tools.

cd090580, i think it is posible to have files over 4Gb (m2v file) if you demux from an original DVD-9. So make your HDD NTFS. And I think you can add subtitles to a TMPGEnc Authored DVD. Guide adds subtitles, it is not replaceing, so you can have up to 32.

the only thing i could ask for...how do i change the font/size/color of subs? original where supossed to be bigger and yellow...now they are white... it's a small thing...everything works fine anyway so im happy

Yeah, It roxs, we've tested it a lot so i don't ******* thing someone will find any problems.

Tested it with PAL, NTSC, DVDs with the Film in Vob 3, 9 , 11... etc.. many audio tracks, both simple and complex menus and all without any problems at all, no subtitle dissapearing, no out of syncro shit, subs wayyyyy nicer than the srt2sup ones, and a really happy smile after finishing the process.

Matrix will answer you about the subtitle font thingy, don't worry, it's pretty simple . But gotta say that we didn't test it yet, since we liked a lot the default font.

About your question, open the STL file in Notepad and you can see there in the first line...name, size, bold, italic, underline, position, colors

I did follow the guide...
and had unsatisfying result.
So I want to ask few questions.

First of all I wanted to put ".smi" korean subtitle to the DVD movie.
I think I did managed to put it somehow in the end, but it showed some weird looking language with numbers as if it didn't support korean language. Does this mean I can't use ".smi" subtitle file to change to .srt format?

Also, I only put the movie .vob movie files in "Final DVD" folder, and didn't bother with the menu, option, and extra stuffs. If I want to burn the whole thing with the new subtitle in it, do I have to put those extras in the "Final DVD" folder same as I did for .vob movie files??

alphafann: First of all... Wich guide did you follow? the one in the main post or the latest linked by Matrix (see his latest replies).

In general, smi files can be converted to .stl format in Subtitle Workshop, so you shouldn't have any problems with that.

Although, Asian Languages is a diffrent subject, the guide works just good in all cases, but in yours it has maybe more to do with language compatibility than the method effectiveness, open the .stl result with notepad and check if it shows your characters correctly.

This new guide almost exactly describes what I used to do before I came along TheMatrixx's guide about the sup files, in my opinion working with sup files still rulez, it just sucks that the subs sometimes dissappear (weird), but the whole workaround with maestro takes so long if you want to keep some original subs from the dvd you know? Gotta rip 'm first with subrip into a .son format, usually subrip fooks this up with the colors and all. I know it's possible by tweaking subrip a bit, but it's so time consuming. I did it once, the result is perfect... but it will take looooong...

In that case, it's around 2 minutes per added sub, and if you already have the exact matrix, it'll do it automatically even faster. That's nothing in my opinion.

In the other hand, if you don't have matrixes, you're basically fucked up but, we all have been beginers once. .

For ppl in general, notice that this is only necessary if you wanna keep the original subs, most people will only wanna keep Eng subs and the ones in their language so that's a piece of cake

All this process depends a lot on the system you're running it on. Takes around 30 mins in a 2.4Ghz P4, 512RAM 7200rpm Hard Disc. Again, it's NOTHING compared to other less effective methods.

The original film consists of 2 parts + a menu at the beginning, and has no any subtitle at all.
The menu has 2 buttons: [part 1] and [part 2]. The parts start depending on which button is pushed. But when the part 1 is finished, the part 2 starts automatically.

Part 1 starts with the VTS_01_1.VOB and Part 2 starts with the VTS_02_1.VOB
I have type DVD-5, the film originally was in avi file (downloaded from a digital filmcamera).

I have to insert into the film subtitles in different languages.
I began to hunt infos everywhere, mainly on the net. I found a lot of infos, programs, guides, but none of them gives me the perfect final solution. I kept trying without final succes.
I was happy finding this TheMatrixx's guide and I thougt: yes, this is the real thing! This looks clear, perfect, detailed. I started to work based exectly on the guide. Everything looks good step by step. BUT: at the and the film is perfectly the same than the original: the subtitle disappeared. I tried again and again.
I made a subtitle file according to your guide and insert into the Part 1.
I worked only with VTS_01_0.VOB and VTS_01_0.IFO files although the Part 2 also needs subtitles, but first I should like to see how does the process works - wether works at all.

The output .IFO of the Step 4 (Multiplex) in "Final DVD" folder still contains the subtitle: I can check it with IfoEdit. And it appears when I play this multiplexed part of the film with PowerDVD.

From Step 5c I can't see any sign of subtitle anywhere. It disappears.
I suspect the Step 5a: how does the infos of subtitle in IFO file in "Final DVD" folder go through if we erase it? We move only the new VOB files to "Original DVD" folder accordingly your guide. Do the VOB files contain any necessary info about the subtitle for the next process?

The menu not important now, it would be throw away now. This moment the most important: the 2 part into 1: playable continuously with at least 1 subtitle. Later I have to find the real solution: more subtitle selectable form a menu.

I have hot deadline for this work and I'm in deep despair

I did managed to do it right this time.
The reason why my .smi korean subtitle didn't work at first was because I didn't choose the right korean font. Anyway it's been solved and thanks for the help.

Now I have few other question. (For the Guide 1)

1)On STEP 3- D...
I have to rename the subtitle(exactly same as old) that I want to put and replace it with the old one in the "original movie" folder. What if I want to keep this original subtitle? How do I have to name the new one? Let say the original movie subtitle is VTS_01_0.20.sup. If I want to put my New subtitle without replacing the old one, do I have to name it VTS_01_0.21.sup? Then will I able to choose any of those two later on?

2)I don't know the point of STEP 5- C & D(Using IFOEdit for the "Final DVD" folder) on the first guide.
After I choose the right color in "supremap" step, the subtitle I want is already in the "original movie" folder. Can I just burn that without going further step?

I am sorry for keep asking such questions.

Dude, I don't use matrixes because I do not OCR the subs into text, I rip the bmp's and reenter them, so basicly matrixes have nothing to do with this. Why make bitmaps into text and then into bitmaps again?? That makes no sense.
I'ts the fooking around with colours that takes a while, but one\ce you know the trick it's okay.

Well, it depends on you, i'm very happy with the default, shadowy and outlined white fonts. Though color chaging will take you more time, it's one's election if you wanna keep your custom colors, and have the subs dissapeared in the middle of the movie. Or change them to the ones in DVD Maestro with perfectly running subs.
Changing BMP to Text and then to BMP again?... if it's faster and you like the final result, why not?
Anyways, you can always change it's colors, if you're patient enough. Again, it's one's choice.

Well, I never forget the old guide .
I mixed it's steps with a new one's ( the missing link was just IfoUpdate! ) and now I'm standing very next to the gate of the success:
My "Final" DVD is like the original (keeping the original menu + 2 parts playable cuntinuously + the new subtitle). Later I will tell you more about it, but now I'm not finshed my work with all 2 parts.

BUT! I have a new but not totally fatal problem
Please help me again I'm begging. When playing the newly readymade DVD files with PowerDVD, the subtitle desappeard when I rewind/position the film forward or back and never come back unless I start again from the beginning. When I don't tuch it and let the film alone playing in normal current from the beginning, the subtitles appeard on the screen very right. What could be the reason? What can I do to keep the subtitle on the screen when positioning to and fro? (The subtitle cannot positionable with the image / sound??)
