  1. Well I think they become part of the vob files during the authoring.

    If you already know the answer, then why bother asking the question? Did you even try what I suggested? Did you even look at the part of the guide that discusses this?

    Heh sorry man! Chill out, I was going to add thanks for the reply and tip it works great. I DIDN'T know the answer and was completely in the dark. I replied to your query about if they were "burned" or "embedded" as I didn't know what that meant and was hoping you could tell me. I don't think my first reply indicates I knew the answer at all. If it did then it shows how much I knew about subs.
    Any way I am now sorting the problem thanks.

    Hello,

    Thank you for this wonderful guide.
    I've used it and I had many good results. However, I've got a strage situation: with some DVDs the newly added subtitle isn't showed. I can see from the PowerDVD player's menu that I have the subtitle but when I'm selecting it, I can't see it on my monitor/TV.
    If I want to extract the newly added subtitle from the created DVD using SubRip, then my result is empty. I can't see anything in the extracted subtitle.
    I've tried to match the existing subtitle color but still no good result.

    Is it someone who can help me in solving this problem?

    Thank you very much.

    P.S.: I've searched the net about this problem, found some replies but nothing clear about the solution. Sorry, I'm a noob.

    Tried to add spanish subs to a copy of the movie "Shooter". Did everything by the book but when I go to "STEP 3 - Update the original IFO files" the finished DVD only shows the very first subtitle only and the rest won't show. Any help on this?

  6. Yeah, that guide is kind of obsolete, and isn't really for adding new subs, but for replacing subs, keeping the subs count the same. Here's how you get your DVD to "see" the new subs:

    Open the final DVD in PGCEdit, double-click on the movie in the left window, turn on the first (or newest) sub by opening it and "Set". If there are already existing subs, move the slider(s) to the next higher number(s), the next number(s) not in use by the other sub stream(s). OK your way out to the main window. Find the green reel of film icon along the top row of icons and click on it. It's going to give you a message about the number of sub streams changing. "Yes", set the language in the new window if you wish, OK back to the main screen again, Save, and Test.

  7. Hello, I'm New here as you can see...

    my problem is that:

    In the start of the movie, the subs are coming at the time, and as the movie goes forward - the subs comes earlier than what heppens in the movie.

  8. Hi-

    And the DVD is an NTSC DVD? If so, most likely you have the wrong subs - you have subs for the PAL 25fps version. If so, for every hundred minutes of movie, the subs will go about 4 minutes ahead. Maybe see if it's like that at the hundred minute (1 hour 40 minutes) mark. And if true, you'll have to start all over, and synch the subs to the movie before authoring for DVD.

  9. I forgot to say, Thx TheMatrixx for the guide! and thank you manono for the help!

    I know the sub is synch to the the movie: the name of the movie - Shooter.DVDR-Replica & the name of the subs: Shooter.DVDR-Replica.srt

    but i think, as you say, that they on PAL or somthing...

    OK, so how can I do that?
    Quote Quote
  10. Hi-

    Yeah, Replica stuff is NTSC. I'm not quite sure how you got PAL subs named as Replica, but maybe someone renamed them. Anyway, SubtitleCreator can change them to fit, if you really need to go from PAL to NTSC. Open the SRT subs, and go Synchronize->Convert Frame Rate->From 25 To 23.976 and Save. I think I'd make a backup copy of the original in case something goes wrong. And they may still not be synched perfectly when done. You may have to go Synchronize->Set Time Delay + - afterwards.

    I shouldn't be discussing illegally downloaded warez, and you should have more sense than to mention the name of the release. I won't be able to provide any more help on this subject. Sorry, and good luck.
    Quote Quote
  11. Is NTSC is 23.976? Not 29.97?

    (i think that when i download the sub, they was on 23.976... It can be?)
    Quote Quote
  12. OK, i converted the frame rate as you say and it changed, but there is still a problem...

    i also think that subs is going faster then before, so the problem has increased...

    Hi everyone.

    Does anyone know a way of inserting subtitles in a multi-pgc movie where one of them is th rated version and the other one is the unrated. I searched the forum and i couldn't find a way of doing it.

    btw both the version use only one VTS (the same) so there's only one VIDEO and AUDIO stream for each language

    thanks

  17. Hi-

    That's a tough one. I think you'd be better off getting either one or the other, but not both, and adding subs to only the one. Otherwise, I think you'll have to add subs cell-by-cell, an almost impossible proposition. You can choose to get either the rated or the unrated version by decrypting using DVD Decrypter in IFO Mode. Either that or strip out one of the angles/ILVs if you already have the complete DVD on the hard drive.

    I could be wrong, though, as I don't mess with seamless branching and always get the unrated or extended version when reencoding.

    No sorry, i want to keep both version, i really need a tutorial if it's available.

  19. I followed al the steps properly but i can't get the subtitles synchronic wit the audio.

    what i did> ripped original english subs from dvd> converted to srt> downloaded dutch subtitle (srt)> set timing dutch same as the ripped> author them on the dvd.

    Before I submitted this post I tried it once again an now it's synchroon.
    What i did was changing the framerate of the subs in subsync. Then i added the same timings like the ripped subs and compiled another DVD.

    Thx TehMAtrix for your beautiful tutorial even after 3 years it's still useful

  20. Edit:
    "the new VTS has more PGC's than the original, no room. aborting"
    After step 3d. I get this error!
    Is this because your guide is about just one movie and my DVD is about 4 TV episodes.

    Original:

    Hi, your guide is somewhat clear up to step 3, where it is confusing.
    I don't understand what to replace with what!?

    Is the goal of step 3a and 3b, to have one map with the NEW vob files and the old other files?
    Because that kinda makes sense.

    When you say:
    "move them (Cut and Paste) in the "Original DVD" folder overwriting ... etc"
    do you mean:
    REPLACE the old VOB's with the new VOB's?

    a). Copy from the DVD-ROM in "Original DVD" folder all the files of the disc with DVD Decrypter in File Mode.
    Copy where to?

    In a situation where I have 4 TV episodes, that I want to burn to 1 DVD,
    with your method, I end up with this in the FinalDVD map after step TWO:

    Original DVD |||| Final DVD
    ____________ ||||
    VIDEO_TS.BUP |||| VIDEO_TS.BUP
    VIDEO_TS.IFO |||| VIDEO_TS.IFO
    VIDEO_TS.VOB |||| VIDEO_TS.VOB
    ____________ ||||
    VTS_01_0.BUP |||| VTS_01_1.VOB
    VTS_01_0.IFO |||| VTS_01_2.VOB
    VTS_01_1.VOB |||| VTS_01_3.VOB
    VTS_01_2.VOB |||| VTS_01_4.VOB
    ____________ |||| VTS_01_5.VOB
    VTS_02_0.BUP ||||
    VTS_02_0.IFO ||||
    VTS_02_1.VOB ||||
    VTS_02_2.VOB ||||
    ______________________________ ||||
    VTS_03_0.BUP ||||
    VTS_03_0.IFO ||||
    VTS_03_1.VOB ||||
    VTS_03_2.VOB ||||
    ||||
    VTS_04_0.BUP ||||
    VTS_04_0.IFO ||||
    VTS_04_1.VOB ||||
    VTS_04_2.VOB ||||

    Now, if I understand you correctly then I have to rename the VOB files in the FinalDVD map so that they have the same names as in the OriginalDVD map?
    But that makes no sense because they ALREADY HAVE THE SAME NAMES
    Even if I wanted to go from 1 movie to 1 movie (instead of, from 4 tv-episodes to 4 tv-episodes), they still would have the same name, so why do you stress the RENAMING???
    I am totally confused.

    So, I come back to my original question: What do I have rename, and what do I have to replace?

    Could you give me a full example, with the before and after situation?

    Also, wouldn't it be easier to replace the new IFO-files (VIDEO_TS.BUP VIDEO_TS.IFO VIDEO_TS.VOB VTS_01_0.BUP VTS_01_0.IFO) with the old ones in the FinalDVD map?
    They cost lest disk space to back them up in case something goes wrong?

    Sorry to be so longwinded.

    Matrix.

    I'm trying to add subtitles in a DVD with Bonus Material (Lord Of The Rings: The Two Towers - Platinum Series Special Extended Edition DVD).
    I'm in trouble with this step of your guide:
    "In this moment the software will automatically choose the main film in order to demux it." (DVD Decrypter)
    This DVD has many others parts (in VTS_01 and others) to be worked.

    Is there anything I can do to get a disc with the same structure of original DVD, only with all replaced subtitles?

    Thaks for your attention and sorry about my english.

    I don't know what the guide says. Open the DVD in DVDDecrypter set up for (the default) File Mode (and not IFO Mode, as shown in your pic), and decrypt the whole DVD to the hard drive. Then demux the movie alone from the other files using PGCDemux. Remux with Muxman (or however else the guide says to do it), replacing with, or adding in, your new subs. Then put the new DVD with your custom subtitles into the old original DVD using the "Replace" button of VobBlanker. That way you'll keep the menus and any extras on the original DVD, but also have the movie with the new custom subs.

    Hi, manono.

    Thanks for your help.
    I did make a test with VobBlanker and realize that will be able to make what I want. I put a translated subtitle in a litle PGC segment.
    But the colour of this subtitle was changed.
    I used the DVD Lab-Pro to rebuild the vob file. After this process the subtitle was white.
    Then I used the VobBlanker to replace the specific cell of the PGC segment.
    After that, I played the resulted movie. The subtitles was replaced but with brown colour.
    You can say what I did wrong?

    One more time, thaks for help me.

  24. Hi-

    You didn't do anything wrong.

    If you're looking at the same pic of yours that I am, then you already know it's pretty useless, as you can't make out anything. But if I'm understanding you right, everything is good except for the color of the subs after being replaced in VobBlanker. And that's very easy to fix. I usually use PGCEdit for the job, but there's no guide, and it's a little bit hard to explain (open the finished DVD in PGCEdit, double-click the video in the left window, and change the colors in the CLUT (colored box) in the new screen, save and test).

    So, because there's a very detailed guide available, I recommend you change the colors to the way you want them using DVDSubEdit:

    http://download.videohelp.com/DVDSubEdit/Guides/ChangingColors/Guide.htm

    It's a very useful free subtitle program that can do many things, so you'll want to get acquainted with it anyway.

    Hi TheMatrixx!! Your guide was very useful for me, thanks a lot. I `m from Argentina, forgive me for my english. I`ve followed your guide and at the last step.. (with all the anxiety) it failed. I`ll explain: I`ve copied the Final DVD movie files to the Original DVD folder, taking care at changing their names to correspond with the ones that had the movie in the Original one. Then, I open IfoUpdate and check every option that you showed. i choose correctly the "Original" and "Authored" ifo paths, I choose a "Backup path" and finally press the update IFO button. But the Update process is interrupted and shows a message: "ERROR: The original IFO`s PGC area is not large enough to hold the new PGC. ABORTING"
    And I don`t know what to do at this situation. I tried again, but obtained the same result.
    I have to tell you that I`ve made some changes to the guide: I did the Demuxing Step with VobEdit and I obtained the Chapters Info .txt document with the IfoEdit program (the Save Celltime to File option). I `d thank your help, cause your Guide was very useful and I want to complete it! Thanks again, EzE

    If you're asking if any other program can do the demuxing, then yes. PGCDemux can demux the video from the DVD on your hard drive.
