  1. No, that subtitles are not for any use! Just ignore them.

If you want to rip them, use SubRip

    Hello TheMatrixx,
First big thanks for great guide!
However I got a problem with one movie - Flightplan (NTSC).
Followed exactly your guide, then simplified it (I need main movie with subs only), tried alternative tools (PgcDemux, Muxman, Rejig etc.) and the problem is always the same: video is abt 2 seconds delayed to audio!
I found that there is no audio delay in source material.
The only strange thing I noticed was after demuxing (by any tool) wrong GOP Timecode. Fixed that in DVD-lab but it didn't help.
    Can you help me please??

Krzychu: I have the exakt problem as you, but it's like 4seconds ahead the movie... please PM me if you know any way to fix this problem.

  5. Hello!

Ok...so problem with the audio delay!

When you enter the audio stream in DVDlab PRO... click on it and go to the Tools menu and select Audio Delay.

In the window that appears enter the time that you think it's delayed. Krzychu said 2 seconds and Poyaan have 4 seconds

You have to enter the delayed time like this:

    1. If the audio is behind the video (people talk in the movie and after 2 seconds audio comes), enter -2000 (for 2 seconds) or -4000 (for 4 seconds)
    2. If the audio is ahead the video (audio comes before people talking in the movie), enter +2000 (for 2 seconds) or +4000 (for 4 seconds)

After this...delete the original audio from the list...and multiplex the movie with this delayed audio that has been created!

    Good luck!

First, I must say that this guide is excellent!! thank's a lot for the TheXatrixx..!

and for my little problem - everything worked fine for me, but my problem is with the subtitles colour. When I checked the created movie (in the folder 'final') the colour was good - White.

But when I copied those VOB files to the 'original' folder and watched the movie - suddenly the subtitles colour was Yellow.

Why is that?? maybe it's just a problem on my computer, and on the dvd player it will be okay? (don't think so because PowerDVD is like a regular dvd).

    Anyone have a solution??

    thank's!

    Heya matrixx,

    first of all, great guide

There is only 1 thing that does not work...

I got the subtitles in to the movie and everything works fine.

The subtitles are perfectly synchronized with the voices etc, untill i get further in to the movie...

When i'm about halfway the movie, the subtitles start to come with a delay, which go from bad to worse.

At the end of the movie, their delay is about 3 - 5 seconds!

    How can i fix this?

  10. Hi,

I have some questions about the proccess.

    1) When I create the three folders, Original, Demuxed and Final, what do I put in the Original DVD folder?
    2) In step three what do you mean by "Copy from the DVD-ROM in "Original DVD" folder all the files of the disc with DVD Decrypter in File Mode". What is File Mode?
    3) How do I know which *VOB files contain the movie?

    Matrixx Please Answer.

    Thanks

  11. Hello all!

For nteglsh ... It's yellow when you move them and watch the movie right away... You have to do the Ifo Update STEP!!! Then Ifo Update will copy the color of the subtitle and will be white!

For Moviex .. with what program do you demux the video from the DVD ?

For Woeter .. the delay is constant or it start with a little delay... and after that .. 'till the end of the movie it's getting bigger?

For Nazgul.Gondor ... I have answerd you on private!

Hey, The Matrixx. I have a problem which requires your expertise. What I'm trying to do is add a subtitle to a custom DVD movie (with menus) that I created.

I have done all the steps that your guide includes in creating a switchable subtitle on a DVD movie. However, I haven't been able to do the final step, which is to rename the files and use IFOUPDATE to put everything in place. The process doesn't come out the way I want. And it leaves me only with the previous final product, a movie without a menu. (My problem is that I can't get pass the renaming step and the IFOUPDATE procedure.)

    I would appreciate your help.
    Quote Quote
  13. Hi!

I don't think you have to rename anything. If you did the DVD... I am sure the the movie is in the VTS_01_xx VOB set and it dosen't need to be renamed because the output files from the DVD-lab PRO are the same with your files.... just take all the VTS_01_xx VOB files and put them over the original ones (make sure you have a backup and it's not your only copy) and do the Ifo Update process.

I hope I make things clear for you

I'm sorry, Matrixx. I have another problem. This is the problem that seems to be preventing me from finishing the entire process. I can't seem to update the DVD files using IFOUPDATE. The problem is that when I browse for the two first files (from the "original IFO path" and the "authored IFO path"), I'm lost when it come to finding the file with the extension .bak (in the "back up IFO path"). Can you tell me how can I get this file? Thank you.
    Quote Quote
  15. At path 3 ... you just hit the Browse button ... and choose a folder or the Desktop and press Save You don't have to find any file

That's a backup that will be created where you put it

Thanks. Since the back up file isn't shown on the browser, it confused the heck out of me. But then I pressed "open,"it did it automatically. Thanks for the help. The DVD final job worked just fine. It includes my own menu and chapter menu. But it seems that when I choose a chapter, it won't work; the screen goes black. I will just have to figure out what I did wrong.

    Hey Matrixx

The subtitles start perfect synchronised, and get bigger later in the movie.

They start to delay more every few minutes, at the end of the movie, the delay is about 5 seconds

I'm having a hard time with subtitle colors...

After playing with the softwares for a while I discovered that IFO Update is responsible for the movie not having the original subtitle colors, because if I "correct VTS sectors" with IFO Update I can have the original subtitle colors, but I lose the menu. (w/ IFO Update v.0.78)

So I tried testing with another version of the program (v.0.46). It gave me the correct colors and the menu, but while trying to burn it with Nero I had an error messagem (something related to VIDEO_TS.VOB). The burned DVD didn't work...

So, the problem is really related to IFO Update. We just need to know which options in its setup can correct this problem. What version of the program are you guys using and which options did you mark?

"Transfer VTS_C_ADT Table" should be marked or not? Mine is unchecked
"Copy color table..." and "Copy Audio and..." are checked
"Autoanalyze original IFO" is marked also.

    Mode is set as "Standard"

Are these options OK or should I change anything?

Also, do we need to "Correct VTS sectors"??

Thanks guys, this thread is awesome

  19. Great guide, haven't tried it or anything but will likely do so soon. I do have one question though. I want to add subtitles to the movie BUT I also want to add an audio stream (say the original has only a 2.1 and I want to add a 5.1), would a similar process work, just adding the 5.1 along with the 2.0 tracks when recompiling the dvd in dvd-lab? The DVD would probably be oversized so it would likely need to be recompressed. Thanks.

    Hi TheMatrixx!
I didn't read all the posts but anyway..
I have a little problem with subtitles! There's no black line around fonts so subtitles aren't readable if there is white background. I followed to your guide (step 2e), selected Arial font face and Thick Outline style and tried other styles too but didn't make any difference.
    Please help me!

Matrixx, I have a problem. When I added the subtitles to a movie, it stopped showing after 48 minutes. The subtitles work fine without the drag and drop process. After the drag and drop is done, and the ifoupdate step is finished, one of the scenes in the movie seems to skip forward...and that's where the subtitles stops showing...never to be seen again. What do you think the problem is?

    TheMatrixx,

Is it possible to choose the location of the subtitles in the movie??

I don't want them to appear on the frame.. just in the lower black part that I got (I have a "regular" TV).

    Is it possible?

    Thank you very much!

I repeat : FOLLOWING THIS GUIDE WILL RESULT IN A DVD WITH THE ORIGINAL MENUS, ORIGINAL EXTRAS, ORIGINAL MOVIE, ORIGINAL SUBTITLES and THE NEW SUBTITLE (in your language) YOU WILL ADD TO THE DISC.
Matrixx, this is really a good guide, I've used it for quite a long time by now, hehehe, I haven't learned it by hard so I still look at it in here for some details, OF COURSE I CREATED A PDF FROM THIS VERY SAME PAGE!!! (did you think I would always be connected to the internet while reauthoring just to see the guide? LOL :P ).

But only after all this time I realized I had to post this issue, I never thought about it, but its about the "you keep the original subtitles AND THE NEW ONE". Well....

It has never worked that way for me. I ALWAYS HAD TO RECREATE THE SUBS THAT WERE ORIGINALLY IN THE DVD.

And if you think about it, its logical that you would NEVER KEEP THE ORIGINAL SUBTITLES. HERE'S THE TECHNICAL EXPLANATION:

1.- You demuxed video and audio streams and use them in DVDLab PRO.

2.- Then you import chapters, creating a IDX file and you have the same TITLES STRUCTURE in your VTS , that is, the chapters.

3.- You import YOUR DESIRED SUBTITLES to a subtitle stream. (as much as you like).

Finally you compile the MOVIE ONLY DVD, and replace ALL THE MAIN VTS VOBs, and edit the IFO, so the structure CAN BE ABLE TO RECOGNIZE THE NEW SUBSTREAMS YOU JUST ADDED.

Here is the thread: As you are replacing the ORIGINAL SET OF VOBs, for the main VTS, THE ORIGINAL SUBTITLES ARE GONE FOREVER. Why? Because VOBs are just container files, like avi's and mpegs, the only difference is that they contain, (along with menus, back in the early days of DVD, when they didnt use another VOB specifically to contain just the menus) AUDIO, VIDEO & SUBTITLE STREAMS.

That means that you are creating a "twin" set of VOBs, NOT CLONING THEM AND ENHANCING THEM WITH MORE SUBTITLES.

And I say "TWIN" cause they look pretty the same, but they are not.

The difference between these TWIN SET OF VOBs are, YOU GUESSED, the subtitle streams: EACH ONE HAS THEIR OWN DIFFERENT STREAMS.

They work because you edit the IFO file corresponding to the set of VOBs, and by performing that step, you delete the reference to the original sub streams in the set of VOBs, and replace it with a reference to the new ones.

I never thought it was a problem, but now that I was inserting my mother tongue subs to a DVD that originally came with 20, yes thats right, 20 SUBTITLES.... I realized it was time to say I've been inserting ALL THE SUSTITLE STREAMS while compiling in DVDLAB PRO. Cause I wasn't willing to insert 21 subtitle streams, JUST ONE!! hehehe.

Well, its funny noone mentioned this issue before.

Great guide Matrixx, but I think that, as the main porpouse of the guide is to ADD an extra subtitle, NOT REPLACING THE ORIGINAL ONES, this had to be said. So, maybe it would be nice to, after so many years, update the guide, and point out that you have to rip ALL THE ORIGINAL SUBS, plus add the ones that you want, AND INSERT THEM ALL IN THE DVDLAB PRO MOVIE ONLY PROJECT, SO YOU CAN REALLY GET THE ORIGINAL SUBTITLES plus THE ONES YOU WANT TO ADD.

Dont get me wrong, Im not complaining, nor trying to discredit your guide, I THINK ITS A GREAT GUIDE CAUSE IT ALLOWS TO KEEP THE ORIGINAL APPEARANCE OF YOUR DVD, but I think someone had to point out the "LOST ORIGINAL SUB STREAMS" issue at some time.

FIRST OF ALL, RESPECT & RECOGNITION TO YOUR HARD WORK ON THIS GUIDE TheMatrixx.

(02/04/04) - Today I replaced all the images, with new ones in english for better results ! Enjoy.
I encountered a problem if there is already a subtitle stream. I had followed exactly what you wrote. 1st Time I demuxed the DVD including the existing sutbtitlestream, but DVDLAB can't reinsert what DVDDecrypter had demuxed. 2nd Time I did it without.
After compiling and merging the files, I discovered that I miss the original subtitled file.
Adding the new compilation as a VTS-set produces a DVD more than 4.7Gb. Seems not an option.
What about if I do: JOIN and DEMUX the original VOBS first and then ADD the new subtitle?
    Another question:

Is there a way how to delay the subtitlestream? Because the new one is out of sync.

Hey Matrix. I used Tsunami MPEG DVD Author to make my menus and authored that and then gonna attempt to use most of this guide to add the subtitles to the movie afterwards. Using the DVD Files that I got from using Tsunami MPEG DVD Author as the source files. I hope this works. Seeing as the original file is a Xvid avi file and a SRT subtitle file.

Edit: I followed the guide starting with Step 2 and using the M2P and M2V files that I got after demuxing using TMPGenc Plus but before using Tsunami MPEG DVD Author instead of demuxing from the after using Tsunami MPEG DVD Author and it worked. So far. Just have to burn to DVD+R and test that.
