  1. After searching through the forums, I was unable to find an answer to this problem. I have found that every now and then my Sony DRU-510A cannot read a DVD (particularly ones from the early to mid 1990's). Anyway, since the Sony wouldn't read them, I used my XBOX which I have networked to my computer to read the DVDs and FTP the files to my computer.
So now I have several DVD movies stored on my hard drive (with the files exactly as they would appear on the DVD). The problem is that these files are still encrypted just as they would be on the DVD. Is there software that I can use on these files to remove the encryption? DVD Decrypter will not work for this, I don't think. If I can just do that, I can cut and resize the files to fit on a DVD-R. Any info is greatly appreciated. Thanks!

DVD Shrink exactly resolves your problem. Removes encyption, shrinks the files in DVD5 and if you have Nero installed writes them to DVD.

Osiris, very creative method for backing up, hats off to you. I never would have thought of that if my drive didn't read the DVD. But yeah, the above posters recommendation of DVDShrink is a good idea. That should solve all your problems with the files.

If for one reason or another DVDShrink won't do it. You could download Deamon tools (sp?). Mount the folder as a drive and run DVDDecrypter that way. That should work. But I think DVDShrink will do the job for you.
