  3. Hi,

It would have all the .R??? files and then follow by .P01, P02 ...

I know about the .r?? extension. What I am confused about is the .P01, P02 ... files.

    Thanks

  4. PAR files are parity files. Although the idea of parity has been around for a long time, someone had the great idea of putting it to use with multi-part archives.

Basically, the way it works is you use a program called Mirror.exe to check parity on your archives. For each PAR (P01, P02, etc) file you have, you can reconstruct one missing file you have.

Let's say User1 is missing parts r13, r12, and r09. User2 is missing r04. User3 is missing r26, r30. Well, Poster1 can just post a 3 PAR set, P01, P02, and P03 and with the mirror program, each of the users can recreate the missing files they need.

and for the record smart par is at least twice as fast as mirror.

both can be downloaded in just about any group where rar archives are posted. if you use usenet please help out and learn and SUPPORT the use of par files. fills kill retention.
    peace out,
