  2. There you go, I was unaware shrink could split DVD's.

I generally use DVDfab to split movies, what it does is it puts all the extra bumpf on the first DVD, and only has the second half of the movie on the second DVD, that way all the original menus still work.

  3. Hi all.

Johan, you cannot split a DVD to two discs using DVD Shrink and have the menus on both discs.
However, you could try the following:
    - in "Full-Disc" mode, make a backup with the menus and extras, using "Still Pictures" on the movie title and removing its audio streams.
    - using the "Re-author", mode make a movie-only backup.

  4. Hi!

    Thanks for the answers!

For all I know you can only split the main movie file in dvd shrink..(?) Do we agree on that one ddlooping?

pyscrow: I also use dvdfab to split my dvd's. The first part loads and burns just fine in both nero recode and dvd shrink, but when I try to open the second part in dvd shrink or recode I get an error message saying: "dvd shrink encountered an error and cannot continue, failed to open file." Very enoying... Don't you get the same error message??

Well, yes and no. You can actually split any title, including the movie one.

why not just wait until double layer comes out? Then you wouldn't have to split at all. No big deal, just curious.

    Here is one useful guide:

    http://www.dvd-guides.com/guides.php?category=dvdsplit&name=shrinksplit

You CAN split DVD9 to 2 DVDs but you have to try keeping your original menu. You have to experiment little bit: tru to put your menu in front of first part of the DVD.

  8. You cannot split a DVD to two discs using DVD Shrink and expect to have functionning menus on both.
The only way to make a two-disc backup with at least menus on one of them is using the method I previously posted:

    - Make a backup in "Re-author" mode and select only the movie title.
Remove the unwanted audio streams, and use mixed compression (to compress the end-credits to the max or even to still-pictures) to optimize space and minimize the compression used on the movie video stream itself.
By right-clicking the title a sub-menu appears which let you choose what audio and subpicture streams you want played by default (no need for menus).
You can choose to let your DVD player make the decision, choose one of the available streams, or none in the case of subpictures (they will still be present on your backup but will not be displayed automatically).
If you keep more than one of each of these streams, you will be able to change from one to another while the film is playing, as DVD Shrink removes the "Prohibited User Operations" (PUOs).

    - Make a second backup in "Full-disc" mode.
Compress the movie-title to the max (the best option being "Still-Pictures) so as to free as much space for the menus and extras.
Most of the time they will then not need in compression.

    Results:
    - One disc with only the movie, with the lowest possible compression used.
    - Another disc with the menus to access extras more easily (the movie at an extremely low quality level but meant not to be watched; it's only here to).

  9. ddlooping: Sorry, offcourse you can split any movietitle!

Thank you for explaining how to get all the material onto two discs! That is not how I would like to have it though....

I would like the menus, extras and part one of the main movie file on disc 1, and the rest of the main movie on disc two!

I get this result with dvdfab but then I'm unable to burn the two parts in dvdshrink or nero recode.. As I said earlier in this thread I get this error: "when I try to open the second part in dvd shrink or recode I get an error message saying: "dvd shrink encountered an error and cannot continue, failed to open file." Very enoying..."

I'm able to burn both parts in nero burning rom, but I've read a lot of guides how the settings sould be like, but I get different information all the time... Besides it is much more comfortable to burn in shrink or recode.. (You can remove unwanted subtitles or audiostreams etc.)

Does anyone know how to solve this?

Stas: Thank you for the nice guide, but once agin this is only a guide for splitting movietitels...

what you are trying to do. I am just trying to help, but after all these days and different answers you have been given, it may not be possible. I know you can put the movie on one disk and the special features on the other. I am just not sure what you are trying to do can be done and still be functional.

Aah no, once I use DVDfab to split a DVD I dont bother to transcode it, I just burn it to 2 DVD's as is using Nero.

    Do it with CloneDVD 2
You can cut by chapters while keeping the menus/extras
You stop me again whilst I'm walking and I'll cut your fv<king Jacob's off.

  15. gitreel: I know that you are trying to help and I really appreciate it! After reading all the answers, looked around on the forum and read a lot of guides I think you are right! I don't think you can split the dvd onto two discs like I want it..

tompika: Thank you very much for that nice tip! Will try that program in a few sec!

  16. DVDRemake, DVDStripper, can also do this.

How does CloneDVD work on multi-PGC titles?

  17. Hello agin!

I've downloaded clone dvd 2 and it's the best program I've come across so far! Really liked it! Is this program any good for burnig to? I mean, I've tried it and it worked great, but I've read that some people who have burnt their dvd's with this program have had problems playing the discs on different stand-alone players.... Anything you have heard/read about??

    /Johan!
