Hi all. Hope I am in the right forum for this...
I have an old (1987?) CD single that is in the now defunct "CD Video" format. (Sometimes called CD-V or CDV).
I believe these disks had a standard Audio CD session for the audio tracks, and the rest of the disk was taken up with a video track in Laserdisk (?) format. The disk is from the UK and is in NTSC format (which I always found odd)
I've always wondered if it was possible to play this disk on my PC, and hopefully convert it to a more modern format. Can anyone give me some pointers? Or would it take a CD-V compatable laserdisk player and a video capture card?
Thanks,
Zilch.

yep, laser player and capture card is the only option for the video section. it would be nice if there were some way to extract video portions from laserdiscs, but they're analog not digital - it'd be like trying to "rip" a VHS tape - simply can't be done.
As for being in NTSC format, we're quite happy to play either format over here, 90% of our equipment supports both. -
Thanks for the reply.
Can you tell me if any old Laser disk player will play them? Or does it need to be a CD-V "compatible" model?
We play NTSC over here (Australia/New Zealand) when we must too, but it doesn't mean we like itI can't remember how many TV's were compatible back in the 80's either!

well those with laser players would have made sure they got ntsc capable tv's, so it would be fairly normal. as far as i know, as long as the laser player you get can accept a 12cm disc (which older ones can't, but here i'm talking early 80's before cd was widely accepted) you'll be fine.
This site http://www.laserdiscarchive.co.uk/ has fairly good infor on a LOT of players, check it out when you're looking for a player, or put out an SOS to some guys in Oz to see if you can use their player!
