I have an almost 2 hour long NTSC mpeg2 file that I wish to re-encode to fit onto a DVD-R. Since I also want to replace the entire soundtrack to the file to a separate one that I made, I wish to re-encode the whole file in TMPGEnc rather than simply shrink the existing file.
Now, when put through TMPGEnc and burned onto DVD (encoded NTSC, with a framerate of 29.976fps), I noticed that the picture was "juddery", with lots of smooth movements now staggered.
Checking some of TMPGEnc's settings out with a test encode, I found out that applying the film filter, changing the framerate to 23.976fps, was able to get rid of the staggered picture problems.
My new problem is this; although applying the film filter does make the picture smoother for some of the resulting file, there are now sections of the film, fairly randomly spread, where the picture is just frozen and blocky. I've tried re-encoding the file a few times, and the frozen picture always occurs at the same points throughout the file. Whatever the problem is, it's the film filter that's causing it. And I still need that filter to make the picture smoother!
What can I do to make sure that my new mpeg2 file can be filtered successfully, with no sporadic distortions throughout the file? Many thanks in advance.
